Testing Process
The City of Rolling Meadows utilizes the National Testing Network (NTN) for entry-level Firefighter/Paramedic recruitment.
Interested applicants must:
- Complete the City of Rolling Meadows employment application at
- Complete the NTN FireTEAM examination.
- Complete the NTN video interview and personal history questionnaire (PHQ).
- Submit all required supporting documentation.
Applicants who successfully complete the testing process and meet all minimum qualifications may be invited to participate in an oral interview with the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners.
Candidates who fail to complete all testing components or submit the required documentation will no longer be considered.
Required documentation includes:
- High School diploma or GED
- Proof of U.S. Citizenship or authorization to work in the United States (US Passport, Birth Certificate, etc.)
- Valid Driver's License
- Valid CPAT and Ladder Climb Certification
- EMP-Basic or National Registry Paramedic certification at the time of application and Illinois EMT-Paramedic licensure at the time of a conditional offer of employment.
- Any additional documents required by the Board of Fire and Police Commission Rules & Regulations
Additional Application Requirements
- $65 non-refundable NTN exam fee
- At least 20 years of age as of the Final date to receive applications but at least 21 years of age at time of hire and less than 35 years of age at time of placement on final eligibility register, unless otherwise exempt by state statute
Preference Points will be offered in the following categories:
- Veteran:5 points for a minimum one-year active duty with honorable discharge
- Education:Up to 5 points maximum - Candidate is entitles to only ONE of the following three point allotments:
- 1 point -Associate's Degree (non-fire service related) from an accredited college or university
- 3 points -Bachelor's Degree or higher (non-fire service related) from an accredited college or university or Associate’s Degree in Fire Science, Fire Service Management, Fire Service Administration, Public Safety, Emergency Management, or BFPC approved related field from an accredited college or university.
- 5 points – Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Fire Science, Fire Service Management, Fire Service Administration, Public Safety, Emergency Management, or BFPC approved field from an accredited college or university.
- Paramedic:3 points if the candidate is an IDPH licensed paramedic and 2 additional points if the candidate is a paramedic with full practice privileges in the Northwest Community EMS System as documented in a Letter of Good Standing from the system.
- Experience:1 point for each year (up to 5 points) of full-time sworn/commissionedservice with a regularly constituted fire department or fire protection district. (Third party contract paramedic or PM/FF time does not qualify)
Compensation & Benefits
- Starting Salary: $81,073 annually
- Salary range: seven-step pay plan with a top salary of $128,978 annually

- Additional benefits under the collective bargaining agreement between the City of Rolling Meadows and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) Local 3075
