Position: Medical Assistant (Medical Group) 5999 Primary Care (Rolling Meadows) Part time

Pay Range

$19.89 - $28.84 – hourly pay rate determined by candidate’s expertise and years of experience, among other factors.

What You Will Do

Reporting to the assigned Practice Manager with accountability to the Clinical Supervisor, you will serve as the primary assistant to the medical provider by performing routine clinical tasks and direct patient care under the supervision of the Physician (MD) and Registered Nursing (RN). Based on physician orders, you will facilitate patient throughput, clinical testing, and follow‑up activities.

  • Perform routine tasks to assist the provider in patient care activities. Clean and maintain exam and treatment rooms and stock clinical supplies and equipment. Escort patients to exam/treatment rooms. Practice good customer relations, collect and document patient data and history regarding nutrition, activity, mental state, temperature, pulse, blood pressure, height and weight. Observe and respond to the general needs of patients.

    Report general physical and mental condition of the patient to the physician. Prepare patient with basic explanation of treatment procedures and assist the physician during the examination as directed.
  • Review and update patient records prior to appointments with recent test results and correspondence, and determine potential services anticipated per practice protocols. Confer with physician on any incomplete tests, consults or orders prior to the patient visit. Assist with scheduling tests and treatments, pre‑certify patients for hospital care and/or procedures, and process referrals to other care providers.
  • Perform selected clinical duties, review patient self‑reported history and physical, vital signs, injections and immunizations, and assist in minor office procedures under the direction of the MD/APP/RN. Perform venipunctures and finger‑sticks; identify correct patient before collecting specimen and label specimens before leaving the patient. Perform point‑of‑care testing and support lab draw site services according to CLIA and hospital policies. Log and document procedures performed according to hospital requirements.

    Complete EKGs, suture removal, and dressing changes.
  • Perform various clerical functions; answer telephones, relay and respond to patient messages with physician direction. Update and process patient medical records with all patient communication. Schedule appointments and document patient referrals when needed. Coordinate patient care through the appropriate triaging of patient phone calls and call backs as assigned by the provider when applicable.
  • Manage patient contact and follow‑up as directed and by electronic medical record (EMR) tasks. Follow up on all overdue orders, verbal and written, as identified in the electronic record task box. Provide accurate documentation on patient compliance with follow up and notify physician of all refusals for orders. Document all interventions, results, patient/family interactions, and medications dispensed in the record.
What You Will Need
  • Education: Preferred current certification from a national Medical Assistant certification body or obtain within 3 months of hire.
  • Certification: BLS/CPR Certification for Healthcare Providers required.
  • Experience: Working knowledge of and experience with the use of clinical equipment and materials.
