Underwriter, Risk Manager/Analyst
IAT Insurance Group has an immediate opening for Senior Inland Marine & Property Underwriter from our Naperville or Rolling Meadows, Illinois, locations
. In this position you will manage an existing portfolio while actively building new business, helping grow our footprint in regions that are key focus areas for us. You’ll work closely with brokers who value strong partnership and clear, confident decision-making. Expect to be in the market shaping deals, strengthening relationships, and writing business that performs. This isn’t a behind-the-scenes role.
It’s visible, collaborative, and growth focused. The position follows a hybrid schedule: in the office Monday through Wednesday, with the option to work remotely on Thursday and Friday.
- Manage and grow a profitable book of inland marine and property business across the Region
- Build strong, lasting relationships with agency partners to drive consistent and high-quality new business
- Evaluate submissions, pricing, and coverage structures using sound judgment and make clear, confident decisions
- Analyze loss runs, exposure changes, and underwriting data to fully understand the risk behind every account
- Set pricing that reflects exposure and performance, using loss analysis and experience to guide decisions
- Structure accounts thoughtfully, using deductibles, coverage adjustments, or other tools to get deals across the line the right way
- Review policy language and contracts to ensure coverage intent is clear—for both brokers and internal teams
- Partner with claims and internal stakeholders to clarify coverage when questions arise
- Perform other duties as needed
- Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Finance, Business, Economics, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience
- 4+ years of inland marine and/or property underwriting experience
- Solid understanding of the insurance marketplace, including pricing and competitive positioning
- Proven ability to build and maintain broker relationships that drive new and renewal business
- Experience managing a book of business while contributing to growth
- Strong skills in pricing, risk selection, and deal structuring
- Working knowledge of industry trends, products, and the broader competitive landscape
- Authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future
- Industry designations CPCU, ARM, or AU
- INS
21, 22 and 23 - Exposure to loss control or risk engineering—envisioning beyond the submission and into the actual risk
Please note, that the annual gross salary range associated with this posting is $63,270 – $153,200. Actual salaries will vary based on factors such as a candidate's qualifications, skills, competencies, and geographical location related to this specific role. The total compensation will include a base salary, performance-based bonus opportunities, 401(K) match, profit-sharing opportunities, and more.
