What you will do
  • Provide leadership, direction, and resource management to ensure policies and procedures for patient care are implemented effectively and that teamwork and collaboration thrive across the health care team.
  • Assist surgical teams in achieving quality patient outcomes by managing day‑to‑day operating room operations, facilitating collaboration among surgeons, anesthesiologists, surgical assistants, scheduling coordinators, and other departments.
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to identify required resources and resolve patient‑related issues that affect care delivery.
  • Communicate and coordinate with other surgical support areas to provide seamless transitions of care and day‑to‑day unit operations.
  • Oversee supply and equipment status to ensure adequate unit supplies, equipment, and stock.
  • Interview, recommend hires, provide discipline, and recommend discharges of subordinate team members in accordance with Northwest Community Hospital (NCH) policies and procedures.
  • Evaluate ongoing performance of team members using the hospital's performance management system and guide staff development through monthly staff meetings.
  • Assess patient care plans, acuity levels, and census data to plan for staff or material resource adjustments, flexing staff as needed.
  • Conduct product trials and evaluate ongoing product needs with supply management.
  • Serve as a consultant to other care settings on patient specialty areas and participate in direct care as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with the Director to identify unit goals and ensure they are met.
  • Work with the preceptor team and clinical nurse specialist to develop staff skills during orientation and beyond.
  • Initiate and participate in performance improvement opportunities, assessing cost and effectiveness of specialty area resources.
  • Adhere to all Northwest Community Hospital standards, policies, and procedures.
What you will need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (Preferred)
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing school (Required)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) credential from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) (Required)
  • AHA Heart Saver CPR certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) (Required)
  • Two years of experience in an acute care operating room setting (Required)
  • One year of prior leadership experience (Preferred, CNOR preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with physicians and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Assertiveness and innovation in collaboration with physicians and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Leadership skills to motivate and manage employees, delegating appropriately and directing patient‑care activities.
  • Organizational skills to manage daily operations, coordinate multiple projects, prioritize work, and monitor outcomes.
  • Decision‑making skills to work independently, anticipate priorities, follow through, and manage time and resources efficiently.
  • Basic computer skills for data inquiry and data entry.
  • Proficiency in area of specialty/practice.
  • Ability to project a professional image consistent with NCH values of customer focus.
