Med Star Health, a leading not-for-profit healthcare organization in the DC-Maryland-Virginia region, is seeking a Stationary Engineer to join our Engineering & Maintenance team. In this role, you will operate, maintain, and repair boilers, chillers, pumps, and related building systems to ensure a safe, reliable environment for patients and staff. You'll perform preventive maintenance, monitor system performance, and respond to equipment issues.

Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain high-pressure boilers, chillers, pumps, air handlers, and related mechanical and electrical systems serving the hospital campus
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance on stationary and rotating equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operation in a 24/7 healthcare environment
- Respond promptly to equipment alarms, utility interruptions, and environmental control issues to minimize impact on patient care areas
- Conduct regular inspections, readings, and log entries for plant equipment, documenting operating conditions, adjustments, and maintenance activities
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control system issues, making repairs or coordinating with vendors and contractors as needed
- Ensure all work complies with local, state, and federal codes, Joint Commission standards, and Med
- Star Health safety and infection control policies
- Collaborate with Nursing, Facilities, and Clinical teams to support environmental comfort, life safety, and critical systems uptime for patients, visitors, and staff
- Assist with energy management initiatives, equipment upgrades, and reliability improvements to optimize plant performance and reduce operating costs
- Participate in on-call rotation, shift work, and emergency response drills, including utility failure and disaster preparedness scenarios
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe central plant and mechanical spaces, using proper lockout/tagout and other safety procedures
Required Skills
- Boiler operation and maintenance
- Chiller and cooling system operation
- HVAC systems and air handling units
- Mechanical and electrical troubleshooting
- Reading blueprints, schematics, and P&IDs
- Building automation and control systems (BAS/EMS)
- Preventive and corrective maintenance
- Lockout/tagout and industrial safety practices
- Energy management and efficiency awareness
- Basic plumbing and piping systems knowledge
- Use of hand and power tools, test instruments, and meters
- Documentation, logging, and CMMS usage
- Knowledge of hospital or critical environment operations
- Communication and teamwork in a clinical setting
