Maintenance Worker (Part-Time)
Maintenance Worker (Part-Time) Hourly Rate: $25.03-$32.66. This recruitment is to fill multiple part-time vacancy in the Public Works Department and to establish an eligibility list to be used for future vacancies.

Summary:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled construction, maintenance and repair of City streets, parks, and facilities, landscape, city-wide graffiti abatement, plumbing, irrigation systems, trees, alleys, and traffic signals for the Public Works Department; operates vehicles, equipment, and tools in accordance with all safety regulations and quality standards. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Performs construction, maintenance, and manual labor in the maintenance and repair of City infrastructure and facilities; duties will vary according to job assignment.
- Uses various methods to cover and remove graffiti and vandalism on public and private property city-wide.
- Performs a wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled work tasks and maintenance procedures; cross-trains in Public Works work procedures and equipment operation; performs work in accordance with all safety regulations and procedures.
- Performs routine maintenance of City infrastructure to include streets, roadway, storm water drainage systems, parks, grounds, and facilities as assigned.
- Maintains landscaping; installation, troubleshooting and maintenance of irrigation systems; mows and trims lawns and grounds; clears trash, brush, weeds, and debris; removes graffiti, applies herbicides, pesticides, fertilizers, and other chemicals.
- Performs building cleaning and maintenance duties; cleans and repairs public facilities and grounds.
- Operates and maintains a variety of specialized vehicles, equipment, and hand and power tools; assists with maintenance work on tools and equipment; identifies and reports mechanical problems requiring additional repair.
- Assists with setup and teardown and other tasks for special events as directed.
- Assists with seasonal roadway maintenance duties; clears foliage and debris; replaces and repairs road signs; paints and maintains street markings and lane controls.
- Assists in the construction, maintenance and repair of roadways, structures and structural components, pavement, storm water drainage system, and public areas.
- Utilizes proper safety precautions in all work performed; reports safety hazards, traffic problems, equipment problems and emergency situations; performs traffic control activities as directed.
- Supports the relationship between the City of Rosemead and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with visitors and City staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and City information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND two (2) years of maintenance work experience or repair work.
Knowledge of:
- City policies and procedures.
- Basic tools and equipment used in streets, parks, facilities, and grounds maintenance.
- City safety rules and regulations, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.
- Proper use and storage of hazardous chemicals used in the workplace.
- City geography, streets, landmarks, and facility locations.
Skill in:
- Operating and maintaining power and hand tools and equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Following and maintaining safety standards.
- Closely following verbal and written instructions and procedures.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relations with other employees.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.
License and
Certifications:
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Class C California Driver's License and maintain a satisfactory driving record during employment.
- Possession or ability to obtain a California Traffic Control Flagger card within one (1) year from date of hire, may be required.
- Possession or ability to obtain a CPR/First Aid/AED certification within one (1) year from date of hire may be required.
- Possession or ability to obtain a Pesticide Safety certification within one (1) year from date of hire may be required.
