POSITION TITLE:

Floor Care Technician

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Primary

Purpose:

Follow routine cleaning and maintenance procedures to maintain a high standard of safety, cleanliness and efficiency of operations in and around District schools and facilities.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Major Responsibilities and Duties

Cleaning

* Maintain a work schedule that includes the cleaning and maintenance of floors at various District campuses and facilities.

* Keep floor surfaces clean and well maintained.

* Comply with local laws and procedures for the storage and disposal of trash.

* Assist in maintaining an inventory of cleaning supplies and equipment and request additional supplies as needed.

Maintenance and Repair

* Perform preventative maintenance to ensure the comfort, health and safety of students, staff and visitors.

* Make minor repairs to floors as needed and report major repair needs to supervisor.

* Move furniture and equipment within building as directed by the principal, campus administrator, supervisor or designee.

Safety

* Follow established procedures for locking, checking and safeguarding facilities.

* Inspect machines and equipment for safety and efficiency. Report any faulty equipment and safety hazards to the supervisor.

* Operate tools and equipment according to established safety procedures.

* Follow established safety procedures and techniques in lifting, climbing and performing other job duties.

* Correct any unsafe conditions in the work area and report any conditions that are not correctable to the supervisor immediately.

* Attendance at work is an essential function.

* Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or designee.

EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Experience:

* Experience in floor maintenance or willingness to learn

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum

Education/Certification:

* High school diploma or G.E.D. preferred

* Valid Texas driver's license

* Eligible for coverage under the District's vehicle insurance program

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

* Ability to read and understand instructions for cleaning, maintenance and safety procedures

* Knowledge of routine floor care practices and methods

* Ability to operate cleaning equipment and lift heavy equipment

* Ability to properly handle chemicals, equipment and materials used in the cleaning process

OTHER INFORMATION:

Equipment Used:
Broom, mop, buffer, stripper, wet and dry vacuum cleaner, shampooer, duster, squeegee, toilet brush, ladder, dolly, lawn mower, edger, weed eater, blower, scaffold, hammer, electric drill and hand tools.

Working Conditions:

Mental/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Frequent walking, standing, climbing and heavy lifting and carrying. Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces and ladders. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures, dust, toxic chemicals and materials.
