Overview
This position is located in the Cobb County PARKS Department, at the Milford Recreation Center (675 Smyrna Powder Springs RD SW, Marietta GA 30060).
Responsibilities- Perform landscaping duties as assigned: mow grass; plant flowers and shrubs; weed around signs and fence lines; edge curb lines; clear leaves, tree limbs and other debris from park areas; spread and haul ground cover, dirt, or mulch; apply herbicides and pesticides; prune trees and shrubs; weed flower beds; aerate and spread grass seed; service irrigation systems; groom and line ball fields;
and remove snow and ice, etc. - Perform maintenance and construction tasks for various facilities: resurface and renovate playgrounds, fields and courts; paint buildings, equipment, and parking lots; repair and assemble fences and playground equipment; build sets and staging, shelves and other items; perform light plumbing, electrical, masonry and carpentry repairs, etc.
- Perform general custodial duties at various parks and facilities: clean parks, ball fields, restrooms, kitchens, locker rooms, meeting rooms, and other areas; vacuum carpets; hose decks; scrub and wax floors; dust; wash windows; empty trash; setup and tear down staging, chairs, tables, bleachers, etc. for meetings, classes, tournaments, and events.
- Maintain inventory of equipment, parts and supplies: gather supplies and equipment to complete work assignments; transport supplies to and from work site; initiate orders for materials and equipment needed; maintain related documentation.
- Operate County vehicles and various equipment, power tools, hand tools, and supplies to complete work assignments (e.g., lawn mower, weed eater, blowers, tillers, bobcat, tractor, dump truck, wheelbarrow, jack hammer, sledge hammer, saws, chippers, back hoes, and other power or motorized equipment) depending on area of assignment.
- Perform general maintenance tasks to keep machinery, equipment and tools in operable condition, including inspecting equipment, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, washing/cleaning equipment, and cleaning shop and work areas; monitor equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety; report faulty equipment.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
High School Diploma or GED required; supplemented by one year of experience in building maintenance, parks, landscaping or related field. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License. Tasks require the ability to exert heavy physical effort in heavy work, with greater emphasis on climbing and balancing, but typically also involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds);
may occasionally involve heavier objects and materials (up to 100 pounds).
Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, odor, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
Environmental FactorsPerformance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, wetness, humidity, fumes, smoke, temperature and noise extremes, hazardous materials, unsafe structures, confined spaces, machinery, or electric currents.
