Custodian
The purpose of this classification is to perform routine, manual work cleaning and maintaining buildings.
Essential FunctionsThe following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, buffs, waxes, and vacuums floor surfaces; schedules floor work to ensure least possible disruption of work routines in buildings and offices.
- Dusts and cleans desks and other furniture.
- Cleans restroom areas and fixtures; replenishes paper supplies and soap as necessary.
- Cleans break room and meeting room; cleans kitchen, including microwave, refrigerator, and dishwasher.
- Cleans interior and exterior windows, walls, woodwork, blinds and light fixtures.
- Empties trash receptacles and deposits collected refuse in proper receptacles; deposits recyclable material in proper receptacles.
- Sets up meeting room tables and chairs for meetings, classes, and programs.
- Makes daily inspections of buildings and surrounding grounds for safety or maintenance problems; addresses or reports problems as necessary.
- Requisition s and receives supplies ensuring inventory is adequate to perform duties of position.
- Performs emergency clean-up duties.
Picks up books and library materials left out by patrons. Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum QualificationsHigh school diploma or GED preferred; supplemented by five months previous experience and/or training that includes housekeeping or custodial work preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, odor, and visual cues or signals.
Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, odors, wetness, fumes, temperature and noise extremes, machinery, vibrations, electric currents, toxic agents, disease, or pathogenic substances.
