Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Building Maintenance, Maintenance Worker
Job Description
Employee is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of all labor duties assigned by department personnel.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Maintenance of transfer stations; compactor sites and waste containers; routine servicing and preventative maintenance of assigned equipment.
- Assistance in chip sealing operations, mowing of right-of-way, vector and weed management operations, cattle guard and culvert installations and maintenance.
- Maintenance and assistance in shop, welding, tire center, buildings and grounds.
- Assist in the Road Administration office, Purchasing office and Engineering Technician office.
- Perform all related work as required and other duties as assigned.
This position performs under the general supervision of the Road Foreman who may provide assignments and instruction, determine objectives, priorities and deadlines, and assist the employee with unusual situations. The employee uses own initiative and judgment to perform work in an independent and timely manner in accordance with precedents and established policies and procedures.
Qualifications- High school diploma or G.E.D., no experience necessary.
- Valid N.M. driver’s license with a good driving record.
- Ability to obtain a Class “A” Driver’s license.
- Post‑offer drug analysis test and/or pre‑employment physical; driver’s license, employment and criminal background investigation.
Ability to read, write, and understand written and oral instructions; use machines and tools proficiently; interact with occupants of the County buildings and the general public in a professional and friendly manner; work independently using good judgment and decision‑making skills; adapt to changing priorities and situations; be familiar with County Personnel Policy and applicable departmental policies. May require out‑of‑town travel for training.
Must maintain an acceptable attendance record, be punctual and meet established deadlines.
Must comply with all safety guidelines of Chaves County.
Physical DemandsRequires a variety of physical activities including walking, standing, stooping, sitting, reaching, and other muscular strain. Talking, hearing, and seeing are essential. Strength of arms, hands, legs, and back required to perform essential functions. Frequent local travel is required.
Work EnvironmentExposure to weather, dust, fumes, electrical currents, machine noises; may require protective breathing apparatus; occasionally exposed to high work places, confined spaces, volatile and toxic materials.
