Job Summary

Has primary responsibility for the Planned (PM) and Corrective Maintenance of the hospital building's interior and exterior services. Applies paint, varnish, stain, wall cover and other finishes to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, equipment and furniture of hospital facilities. Preps surfaces and applies coats of paint, stains and other surface coatings to decorate and protect interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures, using paint brushes, rollers, scrapers and heat sources.

  • Performs all responsibilities/duties required by the unit.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Preps, fabricates and installs hospital signage.
  • Must be eligible for overtime status and able to work reasonable extended hours to accomplish priority repairs and to fill in for disaster, vacation or illness coverage.
  • Makes decisions on equipment and material needs to successfully complete a job. Responsible for following standard safety requirements, taking adequate precautions to protect adjacent hospital equipment, furniture and other items and maintain work area in clean and safe condition. Moves furnishings, when necessary, to gain access to area and complete painting tasks. Completes the thorough cleaning of brushes, rollers and spray equipment when job is finished.
  • Performs duties of the department within his/her capabilities as assigned by the Supervisor and the Facilities Maintenance Manager.
  • Accepts responsibility for the safety of department employees.
  • Working from Work Order Request forms, verbal instructions or detailed specifications, diagrams, sketches or plans, coordinates activities with other hospital trade sections to expedite work, reads blueprints and specifications.
  • Attends all required Safety Training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, department/service safety, and specific job‑related hazards.
  • Follows the Hospital Exposure Control Plans/Bloodborne and Airborne Pathogens.
  • Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department/unit team inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department's/unit's ability to meet its goals and objectives.
  • Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, families, visitors and fellow employees to ensure a professional, responsible and courteous environment.
  • Makes additions and alterations to buildings and grounds typically during installation of new equipment, relocation of departments/offices, minor renovations and projects.
  • Actively participates in safety initiatives and risk mitigating measures where appropriate and completes all position and unit safety related competencies and requirements on a timely basis.
Qualifications Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred
  • Three to five years of painting and/or related trade experience.
