The Maintenance Operator works under the general supervision of the Operations Manager and the direct supervision of the Foreman. SOCWA delivers fresh, potable water to its eleven member communities and two non-member communities. The Maintenance Operator is responsible for the maintenance and repair of SOCWA’s water distribution system, property and grounds, buildings and facilities as well as fleet and equipment. The Maintenance Operator will be trained in the basic duties of Control Room and Laboratory operations and will work these positions as needed on a fill-in basis, including working some non-regular hours.
High School graduate or G.E.D. equivalent.
Valid Michigan drivers’ license.
S-1 certification by EGLE is preferred, but lesser certification will be considered while working towards S-1 compliance.
Must have the ability to work “non-regular” shifts and availability for scheduled, rotating on-call shifts.
Must have the ability to climb stairs and lift 60 pounds regularly.
Demonstrated basic electrical, mechanical, and plumbing experience.
Ability to deal effectively with stress, remain composed, and make sound decisions under pressure.
Displays pride of job ownership by maintaining a clean and safe work area.
Demonstrates ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and when interacting with the public.
Demonstrated basic computer skills.
Strong verbal communication skills.
