Summary Of Job

Under general supervision, performs routine to moderately complex inspections of Parish properties for compliance with applicable environmental health laws and regulations. Work involves inspecting Parish food establishments and institutions to ensure compliance with Louisiana Sanitary Code; conducting site inspection in response to Parish permit applications relative to suitability for intended purposes; preparing sewer applications stipulating the type and size of wastewater treatment plant for residential and/or commercial installation;

investigating and attempting to resolve citizen complaints; following up and conducting final inspections of treatment plant installation to ensure compliance. Reports to the Health Manager.

• Must possess a current and verifiable Louisiana Sanitarian License or Louisiana Sanitarian Temporary Permit obtained through the Louisiana State Board of Examiners.
• Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Office and Outlook.
• Satisfactory physical condition, including back, vision and hearing
• Must possess a valid Louisiana Driver's License with satisfactory records

This examination may consist of a written test, a rating of training and experience, an oral panel interview or any combination thereof. Applicants must submit accurate, detailed application forms providing all requested information, including descriptions of work experience, names, and addresses of previous employers and dates employed. Qualified applicants will be notified of the time, date place of any assembled test(s) which may be given.

Applications received after the Final Filing Date specified on the announcement will not be accepted. Applications must be submitted on official application forms and must be filed in an Application Office before the close of business on the Final Filing Date. All qualification requirements for examinations must be met by the Final Filing Date. However, the Civil Service Department may admit applicants to examinations conditionally in certain instances with the provision that the missing qualification shall be established prior to certification for employment.

The Civil Service Department shall not be responsible for failure of the Department to receive any material mailed by an applicant nor for failure of an applicant to receive any material mailed by the Department. Applications for examinations shall be open to all persons irrespective of race, color, national origin, sex, religion, age or disability. However, applicants who are residents of Plaquemines Parish shall be accorded over non-residents.

All appointments in the classified service shall be made at the minimum rate or such other starting rate specifically authorized by the Commission.
