Under the general supervision of a Superintendent, the Maintenance Technician performs semi-skilled maintenance, repair, and groundskeeping work to support the upkeep and appearance of City of Sachse parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, medians, and other public spaces. This position plays an important role in maintaining safe, clean, and attractive facilities that enhance community use and enjoyment.

The Maintenance Technician supports daily park operations through landscaping, facility cleaning, minor repairs, and assistance with special projects and community events. Work is performed under general supervision with established procedures and safety practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Grounds and Landscape Maintenance: Performs general maintenance and landscaping of parks, playgrounds, athletic fields, medians, and other public grounds by mowing, edging, trimming, blowing, planting, pulling weeds, and applying pesticides or herbicides assigned.

Facility Cleaning and Upkeep: Cleans and services park restrooms, shelters, pavilions, and other facilities to ensure safe, sanitary, and presentable conditions for public use.

Equipment and Infrastructure Maintenance: Repairs or replaces park equipment, signage, benches, fencing, and other amenities as needed. Assists with minor construction, maintenance, and repair tasks related to park facilities and infrastructure.

Tools, Equipment, and Vehicle Operation: Operates and maintains a variety of hand tools and power equipment, including mowers, trimmers, blowers, chainsaws, edgers, and pole saws, in accordance with safety standards and manufacturer guidelines.

Tree, Debris, and Site Maintenance: Assists with tree trimming, debris removal, litter collection, and trash disposal throughout City parks and public spaces. Sets up and removes barricades, cones, and signage to secure work areas and support traffic or pedestrian control as needed.

Work Orders, Emergencies, and Events: Responds to work orders, service requests, and emergency call-outs as assigned. Assists with special projects, seasonal activities, and community events, including setup and teardown of equipment and facilities.

Team

Collaboration:

Works collaboratively with other Parks, Leisure Services, and Public Works staff to support citywide maintenance and repair efforts.

Other Duties: Performs other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE,

SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Maintenance and Safety Practices: Knowledge of materials, tools, equipment, and safety hazards associated with park and grounds maintenance. Understanding of safe work methods, procedures, and precautions.

Construction and Repair Methods: Knowledge of basic construction, landscaping, and maintenance techniques and methods applicable to park facilities and public spaces.

Traffic and Site Control: Knowledge of basic traffic control techniques and methods used to secure work areas and protect staff and the public.

Tools and Equipment Operation: Skill in utilizing a variety of hand tools, power tools, and equipment used in park, grounds, and general maintenance work.

Communication and Instruction: Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Skill in effective oral and written communication sufficient to interact with supervisors, coworkers, and the public.

Work Habits and Teamwork: Ability to work effectively as part of a team, maintain dependable attendance, and perform assigned tasks in a timely and safe manner.

Maintenance Technician I

High School Diploma or equivalent.

Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.

Maintenance Technician II

High School Diploma or GED.

One or more years of specialized experience relevant to the area assigned (Parks Maintenance, Irrigation, Landscaping).

Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License.

Must possess a State of Texas Class B Commercial Driver’s License

Possess valid license or certification in one of the following:
State of Texas Irrigation Technician;
State of Texas Licensed Irrigator;
Playground Safety Inspector;
State of Texas Pesticide Application license;
