The Public Works Department is seeking one (1) candidate for a Facilities Support Worker. This is an entry level position that will provide general janitorial services, event setup, and complete minor facility repairs. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on problem solver who ensures spaces remain safe, functional, and welcoming, and has a keen eye for details. The position requires significant public interaction, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work independently and exercise good judgment and initiative.

DEFINITIONUnder general supervision, performs a variety of routine custodial work in the care, maintenance, and cleaning of City buildings and facilities; performs minor repairs and maintenance; sets up and breaks down meeting and event spaces; and performs related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISEDReceives general supervision from the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. Exercises no direct supervision over staff.
CLASS CHARACTERISTICSThis journey level classification is responsible for independently performing duties in support of custodial and routine maintenance tasks. Positions at this level exercise judgment and initiative in their assigned tasks, receive only occasional instruction or assistance as new or unusual situations arise, and are fully aware of the operating procedures and policies of the work unit. This classification is distinguished from the Facilities Technician I/II classification in that the latter performs more semi‑skilled and skilled work in the maintenance of City buildings and facilities.
EXAMPLESOF TYPICAL JOB FUNCTIONS

- Cleans and maintains City facilities and buildings including sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, waxing, stripping/refinishing, and polishing floors; cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and draperies/blinds.
- Cleans and sanitizes restrooms and related fixtures including sinks, urinals, toilets, and shower stalls; unclogs toilets and drains as needed.
- Moves and arranges furniture and equipment; dusts and polishes furniture, woodwork, fixtures, and equipment such as telephones, computers/screens, and work cubicles.
- Washes windows and walls; dusts and cleans desk and counter top surfaces; empties and cleans waste receptacles; transports trash and waste to disposal area.
- Provides basic set up and take‑down of rooms/facilities for meetings, classes, and events; assists with office moves.
- Regulates ventilation and temperature in rooms/facilities; cleans air vents; replaces light bulbs and adjusts shades and blinds.
- Restocks restrooms and lunch areas with supplies such as paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, and soap.
- Picks up and disposes of papers and debris; removes graffiti from buildings as needed.
- Maintains custodial supplies needed to perform the work; maintains and operates electrical and battery powered extractors, scrubbers, buffers, vacuums and other related cleaning/maintenance equipment.
