General Labor, Building Maintenance, Maintenance Worker
Sorts library materials and mail for delivery to SPL branches; sets up and breaks down furniture for meetings and events; ensures Library facilities are kept clean and presentable; and performs other related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities- Sorts library materials and mail to appropriate branch/location bins.
- Places bins in appropriate locations for delivery.
- Picks up and delivers library materials and mail to and from Library branches.
- Cleans and sanitizes the building’s restrooms and its fixtures.
- Cleans and organizes the storage facility.
- Sets up and breaks down furniture for meetings and events.
- Cleans and dusts the building’s furnishings, shelving, etc.
- Cleans building floors and interior and exterior windows.
- Cleans building meeting rooms, the Galleria and balconies, staff room and kitchen.
- Empties trash cans;
Maintains inventory of custodial supplies;
Operates a forklift. - Reports all issues to the Supervisor.
- Maintains positive relationships with other staff and acts as a representative of the Sacramento Public Library to the public.
- Requires regular and punctual employee presence.
- Attends meetings and participates in various team activities when needed, and
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
A valid Class C California Driver’s license will be required at the time of appointment and as a condition for continued employment. A satisfactory DMV check and alcohol/drug screen will be required prior to appointment to the position. A valid certification will be required for employees required to operate a forklift (Certification for forklift operation can be obtained after being hired as this can be trained on the job).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Ability toThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Work usually occurs indoors with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions. Routine discomforts from heat, cold or rain when delivering to branches or working outdoors. Cleaning machines may be noisy, and some tasks may be noisy, and some tasks can be dirty and unpleasant.
Work involves routine risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, or machines or the use of protective clothing or gear such as gloves. The work environment also involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as libraries, offices or meeting and training rooms, e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls and observance of fire and building safety regulations and traffic signals when driving.

- Requires constant bending, stooping and stretching
- Spends 90% of the time standing or walking
- Work involves heavy lifting and pushing of furniture or equipment up 80 pounds or lifting furniture up to 60 pounds.
