Position: HOUSEKEEPER FULL TIME

Job Summary

This hourly/non-exempt role is responsible for cleaning and maintaining ACC Care Center to the highest standards, ensuring a safe, sanitary, and comfortable environment for residents. The Housekeeper may assist with laundry duties and provides excellent customer service to staff, residents, and families. Adheres to strict healthcare regulations and reports directly to the Plant Operations Manager, collaborating with the Administrator as needed for daily operations and facility standards.

Job Functions
  • Maintains facilities in a sanitary, infection‐free condition by washing, cleaning, replacing equipment, and furnishing.
  • Operates various mechanized cleaning equipment, i.e., vacuums, polishers, buffers, etc.; vacuums floors and edges.
  • Cleans and disinfects medical equipment (e.g., wheelchairs, walkers, bed rails) and therapy areas following facility protocols.
  • Ensures proper sanitation of dining areas, including tables, chairs, and floors, to meet food safety standards.
  • Interacts with residents in a compassionate and respectful manner, ensuring minimal disruption to their daily routines while maintaining a clean and safe environment.
  • Follows strict infection control protocols, including proper handling of biohazardous waste and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Responsible for disposal of trash, waste, and other disposable materials; removes trash and recycling; follows schedule to complete all tasks on a daily, weekly, monthly, as‑needed basis.
  • Assists with unit turnover such as floor care, cleaning appliances, and washing interior windows.
  • Handles solvents and chemicals; ensures compliance per government regulations (OSHA, EPA, California Department of Public Health (CDPH), State Health Department, etc.).
  • Reports any needed repairs immediately to supervisor; daily interior/exterior cleaning of community rooms and related common areas; mops floors with appropriate (germicidal) solution.
  • Dust mops floor with treated dust mop; dusts furniture and fixtures, mini‑blinds, and horizontal dusting.
  • Cleans bathrooms (commodes, sinks, vanity areas, mirrors, etc.); cleans windows and window tracks.
  • Maintains and cares for all equipment on Housekeeping Cart; stocks Housekeeping Cart at end of shift.
  • Collaborates with nursing and care staff to ensure cleaning schedules align with resident care needs and activities.
  • Communicates effectively with team members to report maintenance issues, resident concerns, or other observations that may impact resident safety or comfort.
  • Participates in emergency preparedness drills and maintains clear pathways for safe evacuation in resident and common areas.
  • Understanding of infection control and chemical usage; demonstrates compliance with policies, procedures, standards; assists with other tasks as assigned.
  • Assists with laundry duties as needed, ensuring cleanliness and proper handling of linens and resident clothing.
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma or GED required; vocational training preferred.
  • 1 year housekeeping experience in skilled nursing facility preferred.
  • CPR & First Aid certified or willingness to obtain cert within 90 days of employment.
  • Completion of infection control training per healthcare setting within first 90 days of employment.
  • Effective verbal/written English communication skills; bilingual is a plus.
  • Basic knowledge of infection control, chemical usage, and safe body mechanics.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work evenings, weekends, or holidays as needed.
  • Compliance with all OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Act), EPA, California Department of Public Health (CDPH), and other relevant regulations for skilled nursing facilities.
