This entry level position performs manual and semi-skilled labor requiring some mechanical aptitude under direct supervision. Assists Plant Maintenance Mechanics, Electricians, Plant Maintenance III's and other maintenance personnel as assigned.

Major Duties
  • Performs general maintenance work at the plant to include painting, building maintenance, routine cleaning and lubrication of equipment, and other semi-skilled tasks.
  • Operates a variety of equipment to include, but not limited to, pickup trucks, fork trucks, mowers, and other power equipment.
  • Assists Plant Maintenance Mechanics, Electricians, Maintenance III's and other maintenance personnel in the performance of basic preventative and corrective maintenance.
  • Performs manual labor such as janitorial services, snow removal, debris shoveling, raking, litter cleanup, sweeping, emptying litter cans, mowing, and other related tasks.
  • May perform as a lead person on crews with other Laborer I's or temporary employees.
  • Performs related miscellaneous duties as directed.
Job Requirements
  • High school degree or GED
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Michigan driver's license
  • Prior experience performing a variety of basic manual labor tasks is required.
  • Basic experience in the operation of a pickup truck, fork truck, mowers, and other equipment as well as semi-skilled labor preferred.
  • Must be able to work in tight, confined spaces and at varying heights following MIOSHA regulations
  • Must have attendance record acceptable to management.
Working Conditions
  • Must be willing and able to perform maintenance in a water treatment plant environment including working in and around hazardous chemicals and materials.
  • Drives a pickup truck or other related equipment on all types of street conditions.
  • May work in adverse conditions, confined spaces and at varying heights as needed.
  • Able to lift up to 50 pounds.
