St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners is seeking a Maintenance Worker for our well-established Parks and Recreation Department.

As a valued member of our Parks & Recreation team, you'll play a key role in keeping our parks, facilities, and public spaces clean, safe, and welcoming for the community. With nearly 50 parks, and a strong commitment to community engagement, our department relies on dedicated maintenance staff to ensure every visitor enjoys a well-cared-for environment-from playgrounds and sports fields to trails and open spaces.

Employees work in a team-oriented environment with two common goals in mind: to provide the best services to our citizens and to be the best Parks and Recreation Maintenance Division in North Florida.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assists in preparing and maintaining athletic fields, and related facilities. Assists in installing and maintaining landscaping. Trims trees and shrubs. Rakes and blows leaves. Assists in the maintenance of irrigation systems. Irrigates, mows, renovates and fertilizes fields.
• Assists in the maintenance of buildings and facilities. Cleans and stock restrooms. Collects litter and empties trash. Cleans parking lots and sidewalks.
• Operates mowers, tractors, trenchers, and other assigned vehicles and equipment. Utilizes a variety of hand and power tools in the maintenance of park grounds and facilities. Assists in the maintenance of tools and equipment.
• May assist with warehouse coordination of the storage, inventory and distribution of products, safety gear and other materials, as assigned.
• Works weekends, holidays and evenings, as assigned.
• Maintains a full-time presence on the job. May work weekends, holidays and evenings, as assigned.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

• High school diploma or equivalent recognized certification.
• One (1) year of experience in facilities or building maintenance required; completion of a one-year maintenance-focused apprenticeship or internship may be substituted for the required experience.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida driver's license and any other endorsements necessary to legally operate vehicles used while assigned to this position.
• Must possess good interpersonal and communication skills to serve others.
• Must be able to comprehend, speak and write the English language.
• Must be able to operate a computer.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

• Knowledge of building, grounds, and athletic field maintenance.
• Knowledge of beach driving regulations.
• Knowledge of maintenance equipment operation and maintenance principles.
• Skill in the installation and repair of landscaping.
• Skill in the analysis of problems and the development and implementation of solutions.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS

• Working Conditions may include some exposure to environmental changes (e.g., outdoor weather and/or field conditions, warehouses, garages, etc.), extreme noises, odors, heights and/or dust.
• Physical Activity may include sitting, walking, lifting heavy objects up to 25lbs, kneeling, crouching, reaching, or standing.

$35,193.60 -$46,987.20
