Building Maintenance Technician - Law Enforcement Center

Job Summary

Performs a variety of tasks to ensure the LEC facility is functionally and cosmetically maintained and running smoothly in order to protect LEC assets.

• Mow grassy areas around LEC, trim weeds, and clean sidewalks
• Follow all OSHA safety guidelines and procedures
• Handle snow removal and work as needed during snow events
• Provide service and/or maintenance to HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and kitchen equipment
• Perform light construction duties such as framing, drywall repair, painting, installation of building features, and equipment and mechanical upgrades and repairs
• Monitor all mechanical systems in the building for proper operation and maintenance
• Assist in custodial duties, including:
  • Collect and take out trash
  • Dust and clean offices and restrooms, and stock essential supplies
  • Clean glass, mirrors, and windows
  • Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors, including halls, lobby, restrooms, and offices
  • Strip, re‑wax, and buff floors (training provided)
• Repair broken or leaking plumbing and restore full use of water fixtures
• Basic knowledge of door lock systems and camera systems
• Assess when service or repair must be outsourced
• Two‑week on‑call rotation

• Demonstrate a positive attitude toward working with the public
• Be available for a two‑week on‑call rotation

Perform all other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma required
• One year of building maintenance experience or related field preferred

• Present yourself in a highly professional manner with a variety of offices and professional situations, maintaining a positive and respectful attitude, and working independently and in a team environment
• Work within a chain of command, work around inmates, and follow directions exactly
• Track tools and parts during maintenance tasks and follow proper guidelines and procedures
• Work independently without supervision
• Knowledgeable of electricity, plumbing, painting, and snow removal
• Willing to work on door lock systems and security camera systems (training provided)
• Knowledgeable of painting and required preparation
• Knowledgeable of grounds work, including concrete repair
• Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions and procedures of typical building trades
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Knowledgeable of the operations of small and medium equipment, including preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair

• Work in extreme heat and cold for mowing and snow removal
• Push, pull, carry, or lift heavy items regularly; up to 100 lbs
• Pull strenuous activity; must be able to walk, stoop, bend, lift, and be on your feet all day
