Job Summary / Scope

Performs general maintenance tasks for City Hall and responds to directions from direct supervisor or designee.

Responsibilities
  • Perform general maintenance for City Hall, including cleaning, painting, plumbing, masonry, carpentry repairs, and minor repairs to boilers, plumbing, and air conditioning units.
  • Maintain proper supplies and equipment to perform required duties.
  • Maintain the exterior grounds and landscaping of City Hall in cooperation with the Parks Maintenance Division, including mowing, trimming, watering, weeding, removing litter, sweeping sidewalks, and snow/ice removal.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the basement of City Hall.
  • Move furniture and equipment and set up for events and other activities.
  • Report need for major building repairs to direct supervisor and assist in identifying sources for materials, including making vendor contacts.
  • Maintain cleanliness and aesthetics of the elevators.
  • Collect and transport recyclables to City’s recycling facility.
  • Assemble furniture or other equipment as needed.
  • Handle deliveries accordingly.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Skills in general facility maintenance, inventory, and supply.
  • Ability to troubleshoot building maintenance problems and resolve issues.
  • Ability to perform tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to monitor HVAC system and boiler and follow directions.
  • Knowledge of electrical and plumbing repairs.
  • Knowledge of air conditioning, boiler/burner operations, lighting systems and cleaning chemicals, along with other basic equipment found in the office environment and exterior of building including motorized equipment and power tools.
  • Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards and corresponding safety precautions necessary for safe performance while using equipment to complete assigned tasks.
  • Ability to respond to communications after working hours if needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Three years related work experience required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
Materials and Equipment Used

Variety of equipment for maintenance and custodial duties, including machinery, equipment, hand and power tools, shovels, clippers, etc., used on a frequent basis to repair and maintain the facility. Computer and other office equipment. Personal vehicle may be required at times.

Working Environment /

Physical Requirements

Work is performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor settings where weather conditions fluctuate from extreme heat to extreme cold. Some exposure to dirt, dust, fumes and noise. Physical activity includes prolonged standing, bending, stooping, lifting, walking, and frequent use of arms and hands. Frequently lifts 10 to 20 pounds; must be able to lift 75–100 pounds independently and up to 100 pounds with assistance.

Must have the ability to carry and maneuver a 12‑foot or taller ladder. Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes.

Education

High School diploma or equivalent required.
