Position Title: Building Maintenance Technician

Salary: $33,946.00 yr / $16.32 hr (approx.)

Performs light maintenance and care of mechanical and electrical systems, painting and refinishing and regular custodial and building cleaning duties. No supervisory or budgetary responsibilities.

• Perform custodial maintenance and cleaning activities in the upkeep of the Parking structures and facilities, including stairwells, storage areas and restrooms.
• Troubleshoot, repair, and replace minor electrical fixtures and circuitry.
• Perform minor plumbing repairs.
• Paint offices, related parking structures, curbs, pavement guide arrows, and other parking‑related pavement markings.
• Drive 4‑wheel drive pick‑up truck and operate small pavement sweeper in multi‑level garages and surface lots.
• Perform minor concrete repair and patching.
• Remove snow and spread ice remover on sidewalks in all parking garages and surface lots.
• Operate snow removal equipment such as four‑wheel drive pick‑up equipped with a snow plow and a material spreader.
• Care for plants in planters, spray for weeds and prune trees and shrubs.
• Operate push mower and weed eater.
• Secure parking garages; regularly clean urine and feces from garages.
• Assist in booting vehicles.
• Clean and grease ticket collection boxes.

Performs all other related duties as assigned.

• Basic ability to work with hand tools and small electrical tools such as saws and drills.
• Good public relations skills.
• Some knowledge and experience in general custodial work.
• Knowledge of basic electrical circuitry and plumbing systems.
• Familiarity with equipment found in office environment and recreational areas.
• Proficiency in using a Volt/Ohm meter.
• Valid operator’s license and ability to operate a small pavement sweeper and light wheeled vehicles.
• Ability to be on-call and/or carry a pager and respond to emergencies as needed.

Regularly uses a variety of cleaning equipment such as buffing machines, carpet sweepers, mops and brooms, hand tools for repairs, pick‑up truck, snow plow, material spreader, small pavement sweeper, push mower and weed eater. Personal vehicle may be required at times.

Most work performed in an indoor and outdoor environment. Work involves frequent lifting and moving of objects weighing from 30 to 75 pounds. Requires periods of standing, bending, pushing, and other physical activity. Occasional use of off‑the‑shelf weed control and plant‑feeding chemicals. Requires hand dexterity to operate a variety of hand tools, including small electrical tools. Requires average vision and some hearing ability.

Some overnight or day travel may be required for business purposes.

High school diploma or equivalent and must be able to obtain within 6 months of employment. One to three years’ experience in a related field preferred.
