Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Summary
The General Maintenance Worker will perform general maintenance and repairs for assigned equipment and facilities, including plumbing, electrical, basic carpentry, heating and cooling, and other building systems.
Responsibilities- Read and interpret equipment manuals, drawings, schematics, blueprints, and work orders to perform required maintenance.
- Provide emergency repairs on production equipment to keep lines operational at all times.
- Perform scheduled maintenance and repairs of production equipment, including replacement of failed components such as bearings, belts, motors and power/control lines.
- Diagnose problems and failures and repair or replace parts as required.
- Disassemble/assemble defective machines and equipment and install new or repaired parts, using specifications and/or blueprints, precision measuring instruments and hand tools.
- Adjust various types of devices and control systems.
- Understand facilities, systems, and component functions and relationships, and troubleshoot and repair accordingly.
- Install, troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including 480 V and below, and control voltage/systems.
- Perform basic hydraulics/pneumatics tasks; experience preferred.
- Ammonia refrigeration experience preferred.
- Work in a fast‑paced, cold, wet production environment.
- Collaborate well with production line workers and supervisors, with a strong customer service mindset.
- Minimum five years of experience in an industrial maintenance capacity; food or medical plant experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Good Manufacturing Processes (GMP) and food manufacturing best practices.
- Mandatory ability to speak, understand, read and write in English.
- Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.
- Reasoning ability: interpret instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form and make decisions on routine matters.
- Computer literate, intermediate skills in Excel.
- Advanced knowledge/skills with forklifts and electric pallet jacks.
Regularly required to move within the facility; standing/walking on concrete floors up to 12 hours per day, 6 days per week; lift/carry up to 50 pounds. Requires hand‑to‑finger coordination, vision abilities (close, distance, peripheral, depth perception), standing, stooping, walking, bending, climbing.
Work EnvironmentWorking near moving mechanical parts; exposed to wet, cold and/or humid conditions indoors and outdoors. Noise levels typically require OSHA‑required hearing protection.
Work ScheduleHours and days established by departmental needs; must be available to work scheduled weekends and holidays.
