Job Description

Providing exceptional customer service and patient satisfaction is a responsibility of the EVS Technician-AM, who works under the supervision of the EVS Manager. Provides a daily cleaning of inpatient and non-patient areas, moves furniture, and performs a variety of miscellaneous responsibilities necessary to maintain a safe, clean environment.

Job Description

Providing exceptional customer service and patient satisfaction is a responsibility of the EVS Technician-AM, who works under the supervision of the EVS Manager. Provides a daily cleaning of inpatient and non-patient areas, moves furniture, and performs a variety of miscellaneous responsibilities necessary to maintain a safe, clean environment.

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrates proper hand hygiene and use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Demonstrates knowledge and proper use for cleaning and disinfecting chemicals.
  • Performs daily cleaning of each occupied patient room and terminal cleaning of discharged patient rooms, following the appropriate cleaning checklist.
  • Performs cleaning of public restrooms, common, and ancillary areas throughout the facility and replenishes EVS supplies as assigned.
  • Demonstrates the ability to properly empty waste receptacles, change needle (sharps) containers, and transports regular and bio-hazard waste to appropriate destinations.
  • Maintains hard surface and carpet floors using various equipment and machines.
  • Assist in the clean-up of spills such as mercury, chemo, or formalin with appropriate spill kits.
  • Maintains work area in a manner that is conducive to an orderly and efficient workflow, where distractions from personal belongings are minimized.
  • Lifts and transports patient room furniture to designated areas.
  • Performs cleaning of internal windows and screens within height guidelines, vents, walls, and light fixtures, and changes cubicle curtains as needed.

Work Experience
  • Cleaning experience
    - Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • CPI:
    Nonviolent Crisis Intervention - CPI training for those working in Mental Health
    - Required within 180 Days
Travel Requirements
  • Must be able to travel to various system facilities and off-site locations as needed.

Skills and Abilities

Essential Technical/Motor Skills
  • Must be able to spot small objects on carpets, walls, and floors that need cleaning or picking up.
  • Must be able to speak clearly so that patients/visitors/staff can understand.
  • Must be able to record data pertaining to projects accomplished, what rooms were cleaned, etc.
  • Must be coordinated with equipment and observant in such a way that persons in the area are not hurt, bumped into, etc.
  • Operates electrical controls on beds safely in order to thoroughly clean.
Interpersonal Skills
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Moderate written skills.
  • Presents well to patients, visitors, and is well groomed.

Physical Requirements
  • Dust and wet mops floors (up to 30 rooms per day; office areas up to 50 rooms).
  • Ability to operate vacuum sweeper.
  • Ability to lift mops, pails, trash bags, soiled linen hampers, etc.
  • Trash bags and linen hampers may weigh from 20-40lbs.), with bags needing transported to utility rooms periodically.
  • Ability to flip mattresses on beds for cleaning undersides.
  • Ability to stoop repetitively for cleaning under sinks, toilets, etc.
  • Ability to reach with arms fully extended up to clean bed lights, high dust, etc.
  • Scrub down showers and bathtub surfaces.
  • Requires bending/stooping.
  • Transport supplies to work areas.
  • Supply boxes weigh approximately 30 lbs.
  • Washes windows in patient rooms and ancillary rooms, requiring full extended use of arms.
  • Occasionally need to stand on step stool.
  • Makes up bed for new patients after cleaning a dismissal.
  • Moves bed (rolls) in order to dust mop/mop in front of and under bed.
  • Mixes small quantities of disinfectant for use in area.
  • Pulls and pushes housekeeping cart on both carpeting and hard floor surfaces.
  • Ability to work and move quickly. Some schedules require mopping/vacuuming of large areas.
  • Requires long periods of repetitive arm movement (mopping/vacuuming).
  • Replenish supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, etc.
Essential Mental Abilities
  • When work is interrupted, must remember what was/wasn't done in a room then finish the work later.
  • Must be organized in order to finish work schedule; i.e., pace oneself, remember things, which were done yesterday which do not need doing today, etc.
