Head Custodian

Assist in the efficient operation of the Buildings and Grounds Department to project a positive image of the Affton School District while supporting an appropriate physical environment. Responsible for overall cleanliness, sanitation, security and safety of assigned location and area within the district. This is a traveling Head Custodian position within the Affton School District. This position does not have direct reports to supervise.

A 12-month support staff position with district-recognized holidays, paid sick and personal leave. Leave may be prorated based on start date. This is full-time, 40 hours per week, with a district provided benefits package that includes employee health, dental, life and vision insurance.

According to the 2025-26 Support Staff Pay Schedule within the Head Custodian range through the end of June. The starting hourly rate for this position is $17.10. Placement within the range is determined by like experience and education. In July, the 2026-27 Support Staff Pay Schedule would be applied.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalency, two or more years of custodial experience, an exceptional attendance record, a valid Missouri driver's license, transportation to assist in various buildings within the district, preference for prior custodial supervisor experience, prior experience in an educational setting, the ability to perform essential functions of the position, the ability to safely operate all custodial equipment, dependability and punctuality, willingness to complete job-related training through professional development, travel and/or transport of equipment, materials, and tools between district facilities as appropriate, the ability to work independently and on a team, use good judgment, think quickly and rationally, solve problems, and respond to situations in a calm, caring manner, the ability to remain flexible & positive with the demands of the job without losing sight of the mission, task or assignment, the ability to develop effective working relationships with students and the school community, and the ability to work with a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural population.
