Structural Mechanic

The St. Louis County Department of Transportation and Public Works seeks a well-experienced Structural Mechanic that can perform remodeling, construction, repair, preventive maintenance, and cleaning work at the skilled generalist level in an assigned area or location. The typical starting salary range is between $20.50 - $24.60 hourly depending upon the candidate's qualifications as well as budgetary considerations. The position is located at the Lawrence K, Roos Building, 41 S.

Central, Clayton MO. The shift is 1st shift 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday – Friday. Additionally, we offer a comprehensive benefits package and a generous Paid Time Off (PTO) policy.

Examples of duties include performing construction, remodeling and renovation work such as demolishing walls and appurtenances, framing new walls, repairing damaged and handing new sheetrock, replacing trim, painting, roofing, hanging wall coverings and installing shelving and drop ceilings; removing and replacing tiled and carpeted flooring; assembling casework. Performing interior and exterior maintenance and repair to facility structural systems such as repairing/refinishing/painting doors, walls, ceilings, floors, trim, fixtures, furniture and cabinetry/shelving;

pointing masonry and brick; repairing stone, concrete tile surfaces.

Minimum qualifications include three years of progressively responsible work experience in building construction, renovation, construction maintenance or as a painter or mason. Special requirements include possession of a current, valid Driver's License. An Asbestos Operations and Maintenance Accreditation may be required within 30 days of employment depending upon the division to which assigned.

Selection and appointment will evaluate the qualifications of each applicant which will include recentness and appropriateness of the applicant's education and experience, answers to the supplemental questions, results of employment references investigated and any other appropriate information available. The selection committee will admit to the interview only those persons who possess the most job related qualifications and may establish admittance criteria beyond the minimum qualifications stated above.

The interview will comprise 100% of the applicant's earned grade. A candidate must earn a qualifying grade of 70 or more on the interview to be eligible for appointment.

Employees hired for full time employment will participate in the St. Louis County retirement plan where they contribute 4% of their salary to the defined benefit plan with vesting after 7 years.

The employee can also take up to 80 hours of leave for prenatal care and up to 80 hours for care of the child within the first year.
