Job Summary

The Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and well-functioning church and school campus that supports the mission of Assumption Parish and School. This position performs custodial services, preventative maintenance, and general repair work throughout parish facilities, ensuring that buildings, grounds, and equipment are maintained in a safe, attractive, and operational condition. The Maintenance Technician works collaboratively with parish and school staff to prepare facilities for worship, education, and parish activities while demonstrating professionalism, reliability, and Christian stewardship.

Job Responsibilities
Custodial Services
  • Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of the church, school cafeteria, parish meeting rooms, hallways, and adjacent restrooms.
  • Clean and sanitize restroom facilities and replenish paper products, soap, and other restroom supplies.
  • Empty trash and recycling receptacles throughout the campus.
  • Sweep, mop, vacuum, and maintain floors using appropriate equipment and cleaning products.
  • Operate floor scrubbers and other custodial equipment safely and effectively.
  • Set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment for parish liturgies, meetings, school functions, and special events.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of entrances, common areas, and other assigned spaces.
Maintenance and Repairs
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs to parish and school buildings, furnishings, fixtures, and equipment.
  • Complete preventative maintenance tasks to help ensure the safe and efficient operation of facilities.
  • Perform light carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical repairs within the scope of the position.
  • Identify maintenance needs and report major repairs or safety concerns to the Facilities Manager or Business Manager.
  • Assist outside contractors as needed during maintenance or repair projects.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and maintenance supplies in a safe and organized manner.
Safety and Facility Operations
  • Ensure facilities are maintained in compliance with safety standards and parish policies.
  • Report hazardous conditions, equipment failures, and security concerns promptly.
  • Assist with emergency response and facility-related issues as needed.
  • Support snow removal, ice treatment, and other seasonal maintenance responsibilities, as assigned.
  • Assist with special projects and other facility-related duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, reach, and perform physical labor throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work safely on ladders, scaffolds, and platform lifts.
  • Ability to operate custodial and maintenance equipment safely.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions as required.
Working Conditions
  • Work is performed throughout the church, school, parish offices, meeting rooms, and surrounding campus.
  • Position requires frequent physical activity, including lifting, climbing, bending, and prolonged standing.
  • Occasional evening or weekend work may be required to support parish events, emergencies, or special projects.
