General Description/Position Summary

As the St. Louis Area Foodbank's Facilities Supervisor, you will play a critical role in supporting and maintaining the organization's physical infrastructure to ensure safety and maximize functionality. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of tasks related to building and ground maintenance, safety, and operational efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervises facilities team members, relevant vendors, and contractors performing repairs.
  • Assist with maintenance of the entire St. Louis Area Foodbank facility (warehouse, partner agency dock, volunteer repackaging center, and offices), including regular schedule of maintenance and repairs on all equipment and grounds to ensure that the Foodbank is compliant for all inspections.
  • Monitor implementation of organizational safety program for staff; make recommendations for training and help develop and implement training efforts.
  • Coordinate maintenance of the facility to ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, Feeding America, AIB, USDA, and local and state regulatory agencies, as necessary.
  • Monitor building and equipment; repair or report problems as necessary.
  • Perform basic construction tasks in the warehouse and office areas.
  • Work with staff to ensure food safety.
  • Responsible for following safe workplace policies.
  • Take an active role in reinforcing, modeling, and championing safe work practices.
  • Review all maintenance logs daily and report any discrepancies to management.
  • Oversee the organization's Pest Management Program.
  • Assist in maintaining sanitary conditions in the facility to include collection and disposal of all warehouse and facility trash or debris daily and clean up all spills.
  • Operate material handling equipment such as forklifts and pallet jacks in a safe and orderly manner to reduce accidents and injuries.
  • Provide coverage for the Facilities Manager when necessary.
  • Support all members of the Facilities department and the Operations team as a whole.
  • Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications/Requirements
  • High School Diploma/GED equivalent required
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of prior maintenance experience required
  • Prior people management/direct supervisory experience required
  • Strong analytical skills and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent organization skills
  • Experience in two or more trades: electrical, carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, painting, preferred
  • Prior non-profit experience preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and other web-based applications preferred
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, handle interruptions, maintain focus on tasks and produce high quality work
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Passion for the Foodbank's mission and the ability to demonstrate SLAFB's Core Values (Stewardship, Teamwork, Agility, and Respect)
  • Must be able to pass drug screening and criminal background check.
Working Conditions

Work is performed in warehouse with a significant amount of walking on concrete surfaces. Entrances may be open and work conditions during the summer months can be hot and cold during the winter. Employee may be going in and out of freezers and coolers with extreme variations in temperature. Workspace could be dusty and on occasions can be noisy due to the traffic of motorized vehicles operated in the building.

Periodically may work outside and be exposed to the elements. Employee may be exposed to spoiled food and sharp objects due to working with damaged product. Employee must lift, bend, stoop, pick up and move objects up to 75 pounds. Work involves using manual pallet jacks and therefore requires an ability to push and pull pallets over 2,000 pounds.

Work Schedule
  • Monday - Friday onsite at the SLAFB facility and in the community as needed
  • Occasional weekend (Saturday/Sunday) or evening hours may be required
  • Meeting attendance may require overnight travel
