Facilities Maintenance Technician

This role supports Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) laboratory and office facilities by performing technical maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on HVAC and building systems. The technician focuses heavily on preventive maintenance while ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation of critical building infrastructure. The position also provides customer support and maintains accurate documentation for daily operations across two facilities.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) and repairs on HVAC systems, including rooftop units (RTUs), air handlers, chillers, boilers, and cooling towers.
  • Maintain and repair building systems such as lighting, plumbing, garage doors, and general building finishes including tiles, doors, and paint.
  • Support GMP lab and office environments by ensuring building systems operate reliably and in accordance with facility standards.
  • Conduct daily facility upkeep, inspections, and rounds to identify and address issues proactively.
  • Walk the property extensively, averaging 12,000–15,000 steps per day, to monitor equipment, respond to work orders, and support facility needs.
  • Use building automation systems (Niagara
    4), tablets, and laptops to document work, complete PMs, and maintain accurate maintenance records.
  • Provide responsive customer service to internal stakeholders, addressing maintenance requests and communicating status updates clearly and professionally.
  • Rove to the Saint Paul site as needed to support maintenance activities, with a particular focus on customer support and documentation.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation with other team members (after the initial 90 days) to respond to after-hours issues as required.
  • Follow all safety procedures and best practices while working on mechanical, electrical, and building systems.
Essential Skills
  • At least 1 year of facilities maintenance experience in a non-residential environment.
  • Hands-on experience with HVAC systems, including rooftop units (RTUs), air handlers, chillers, and related equipment.
  • Experience in general facility maintenance, including plumbing, lighting, repair work, and basic carpentry.
  • Ability to perform preventive maintenance on HVAC and building systems in a structured and consistent manner.
  • Comfort working in GMP lab and office environments with attention to detail and compliance-focused practices.
  • Proficiency using building automation systems, specifically Niagara 4, for monitoring and controlling building systems.
  • Ability to use tablets and laptops for documentation, work order management, and communication.
  • Physical ability to walk 12,000–15,000 steps per day and move throughout large facilities as part of daily duties.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving issues with building mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills when interacting with building occupants and stakeholders.
Additional

Skills & Qualifications
  • Boiler and HVAC certifications are highly beneficial and considered a strong plus.
  • Experience working with a combination of chillers, air handlers, RTUs, and cooling towers is strongly preferred.
  • Experience as a building engineer or in a similar facilities maintenance role is advantageous.
  • Experience supporting multiple sites or roving between facilities is helpful.
  • Ability to participate in an on-call rotation after the initial training period.
