Join our Facilities Management team as a University Custodian. In this role, you will do more than just maintain our physical campus; you will play a vital part in Bethel’s mission to educate and equip students in a Christ‑centered community. As a member of our staff, you serve as a minister of the gospel by fostering a clean, safe, and welcoming environment where students can grow.
This is a 40‑hour per week, 12‑month position. Typical working hours are on 1st Shift (8:00 am – 4:30 pm). A 12‑month schedule also allows for occasional overtime.
The salary for this role is $21.75 per hour.
Responsibilities Clean and maintain assigned areas (30%)- Clean and service lavatories.
- Clean and sanitize surfaces.
- Vacuum carpets and rugs.
- Collect loose debris and deposit it in the appropriate receptacles.
- Remove and replace full receptacle liners and place full liners in the appropriate collection area.
- Clean receptacles when necessary.
- Mop and sweep floors, stairs, and other hard surfaces.
- Lead the shift in cleaning and maintaining assigned buildings.
- Supervise and direct work of contract cleaners and student workers.
- Collaborate with the 2nd shift supervisor on set‑ups and coordination of responsibilities to ensure all work is completed.
- Oversee the work orders for the shift.
- Assist conference and events services with event set‑up and take‑down.
- Assist with summer event set‑up and take‑down.
- Schedule contract and student workers for shifts.
High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred EducationSome post‑secondary coursework.
Required ExperienceNo professional experience is required.
Preferred Experience2+ years of custodial experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities- Must be a self‑starter.
- Ability to work independently and on a team.
- Excellent customer‑service attitude.
- Must be able to prioritize and handle multiple duties.
- Ability to use cleaning equipment.
- Able to move moderately heavy items.
- General knowledge of cleaning terms and safety procedures.
- General knowledge of Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, and event‑planning software.
- Must be able to supervise and direct a team.
- Must be able to supervise and direct student employees.

TravelThis position does not require travel.
Physical DemandsThis role requires working with and around chemicals and complying with environmental health and safety requirements and procedures. The employee must be able to lift 50 pounds, traverse the campus for extended periods, and perform tasks that involve hearing, talking, and using close vision. Expected Hours of WorkThis is a 40‑hour per week, 12‑month position. Typical working hours are on 1st Shift (8:00 am – 4:30 pm). Some overtime may be required. This position is essential personnel and may be required to work outside normal hours for contingency operations such as snow removal or special events.
