Ice Technician 1: $19.00/hour

Position Summary: The Ice Technician 1 is responsible for ensuring that all ice surfaces, field of play, and associated equipment are properly maintained, and a high standard of safety and cleanliness is met at the Grand Casino Arena and TRIA Rink.

Responsibilities/

Essential Functions:

  • Oversees facility operations and equipment management.
  • Responsible for the daily operation and maintenance of the facility and all systems. This includes ice resurfacing machine(s), ice edgers, housekeeping, lighting, ice making, safety, scoreboard, etc.
  • Responsible for operating a Zamboni and other motorized equipment.
  • Operate ice edger to perform basic ice maintenance daily or when required.
  • Ensure all ice surfaces are resurfaced according to facility schedules.
  • Perform Skate Sharpening.
  • Operate a cash register and complete cash transactions accurately.
  • Utilize business programs such as Outlook, Word, and Excel to complete daily work functions and communication.
  • Communicate any environmental conditions corrections to Operating Engineers when adjustments need to be made on HVAC or ice plant controls.
  • Complete repairs on ice surface, dasher boards, safety shields, and all other equipment related to the field of play to ensure a safe and high-quality environment.
  • Ensure the interior and exterior of the facility are properly maintained on a continuous proactive basis, including housekeeping, snow and ice removal, and general small equipment repairs (doors, walls, fixtures).
  • Assist in annual removal and installation of ice surfaces utilizing resurface rs, skid steers, flood cart, ice template layout, proper ice paint application, and temporary in-ice logo placements.
  • Ensure proper building safety and cleanliness standards are always maintained.
  • Responsible for the daily completion and recording of indoor air quality testing as required by the Minnesota Department of Health.
  • Manage and maintain safety checklists and adhere to state, federal, OSHA, and league safety requirements.
  • Perform TRIA facility security functions including locking and unlocking doors and ensuring only authorized people are allowed into the facility.
  • Maintains event preparation and game-day execution.
    • Responsible for ensuring that the assembly and disassembly of the facility are properly executed as dictated by programs and events.
    • Perform pregame checklists and inspections to field of play safety, equipment and ice depth.
    • Patch and repair any divots, ruts or other potential safety hazards on the ice surface.
    • Perform shoveling responsibilities during TV breaks along with shovel crew members, ensuring all snow is removed efficiently during TV breaks.
    • Skate during intermissions, notifying resurfacer operators of any adverse conditions or adjustments that need to be made.
    • Ensure any outflow from resurface rs is picked up.
    • Make a final ice inspection before the period begins, ensuring any excess water is removed and the ice is free of any adverse conditions.
    • Respond to any emergencies in the field of play (dashers, glass, ice, etc.) and work in unison with the Zamboni Operators and Ice Operations Attendants in resolving any issues safely and efficiently.
    • Required to always be available to team and guests while on duty and to interact with all guests in a professional and courteous, responsive manner.
    • Assist in emergency evacuations of all ice operations team members and ensure safe exit of all guests and staff in assigned work area.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Formal Education & Certification:
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • (STAR) Certified Ice Technician (CIT) and Safe Ice Resurfacer Operation (SIRO) course completion preferred.
  • High School diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications preferred.

Knowledge & Experience
:

  • Five or more years of continual experience working in an ice arena operating resurface rs with industry training programs or ten or more years with no formal industry training programs.
