The State of New Hampshire, Department of Transportation, Bureau of Mechanical Services, has a full-time vacancy for a Machinist.
SUMMARYTo carry out machinist tasks in an equipment repair and fabrication machine shop to satisfy the requirements of the New Hampshire Department of Transportation equipment fleet.
YOUR EXPERIENCE COUNTSEach additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience and/or each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

Experience:
Equivalent combination of 2.5 years of education and experience after completion of high school. Combination of education and experience in the machinist field or completion of a standard apprenticeship in the machinist trade.
Valid driver's license.
Other RequirementsApplicant's Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) must meet the minimum standards established by the hiring agency.

When applicable, the work of an employee in trainee status in this position shall be overseen by a fully qualified individual. An employee in trainee status shall meet the minimum qualifications within the period of time specified on the SJD, not to exceed one year of being hired into this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES DETAILED TASKS (AGENCY/POSITION-SPECIFIC)- Operates a variety of machine shop equipment, lathes, milling machines, drill presses, welding equipment.
- Fabricates replacement parts and seasonal expendable items for warehouse stock.
- Customizes manufacture components for special applications.
- Works from detailed drawings, sets up, operates, adjust and repairs a variety of stationary machine shop equipment such as precision straight bed industrial lathes and vertical milling machines to manufacture precision equipment parts from metal stock.
- Inspects vehicle brake drums and rotors for excessive wear and/or flaws with authority to condemn or recondition to ensure safe and effective drums and rotors for equipment.
- Overhauls various makes/models of hydraulic pumps, motors and lifting jacks to minimize costly new component or equipment purchase.
- Cross-trains and assists in other sections within the Bureau including the welding fabrication shop.
- Restores cutting edges of a variety of tools.
