DescriptionThe Baker Valley Rest Area is one of the most scenic stops along I‑84, surrounded by sweeping views of the Elkhorn Mountains and the wide‑open Baker Valley.
As a Rest Area Specialist, you will maintain the rest area’s safety, cleanliness and welcoming environment, working alongside the Rest Area Supervisor to support facility upkeep, landscaping, maintenance, and contractor coordination.
What You’ll Do- Keep facilities and grounds clean, safe, and in top shape.
- Perform daily inspections, basic maintenance, and landscaping.
- Operate equipment such as mowers, snowplows, and power tools.
- Complete minor plumbing, carpentry, and electrical repairs.
- Support contractors and fill‑in staff when needed.
- Help travelers and enforce site rules.
- Communicate clearly with your team, supervisor, and partners.
Work in and around buildings, facilities and grounds, both indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions. Duties include handling equipment, climbing ladders, performing repetitive motions, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
Minimum Qualifications- Six months of experience operating heavy or light motorized equipment or a related field such as landscaping, maintenance, mechanical, farming, logging or construction.
- Valid driver’s license issued by the state where you reside.
- First Aid/CPR certification and Bloodborne Pathogens training.
- Residence within 60‑minute travel distance to the Rest Area; relocation must be completed within 90 days of start date.
- Experience in basic plumbing, carpentry, electrical work, painting, cleaning and landscaping.
- Experience with snow removal equipment and irrigation systems.
- Knowledge of state and federal safety regulations.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience delivering excellent customer service.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (email, spreadsheets, word documents).
- Proven ability to manage tasks, meet deadlines and stay organized in a fast‑paced environment.
- Agency provided vehicle for travel to and from worksite.
