Job Overview
The Oregon State Capitol is a National Historic Landmark and a top sightseeing destination in Salem, Oregon. The Facilities Services Team is recruiting for an experienced custodian to perform cleaning duties inside and outside the Capitol, maintain historic finishes, and ensure the building remains pristine for visitors and lawmakers.
Responsibilities- Picking up paper and refuse and sweeping/mopping walkways
- Washing, scrubbing, and disinfecting restrooms and related areas
- Restocking restrooms with appropriate paper products
- Vacuuming, shampooing, and extracting carpets and upholstery
- Sweeping, scrubbing, moping, waxing, and polishing concrete, tile, linoleum, marble, and wood floors
- Cleaning and dusting walls, woodwork, wall partitions, and other equipment
- Cleaning windows, door panels, and handrails
- Cleaning and polishing brass fixtures
- Maintaining equipment used in the course of work and monitoring inventory
- Picking up and sorting recyclable material into the appropriate containers
- Performing simple repairs, unclogging drains and toilets
- Weathering and adjusting cleaning chemicals, readings, and dilutions as required
- High School diploma or GED equivalency
- Equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to demonstrate ability to perform the duties of the position
- Ability to climb ladders and work at heights, stand, stoop, kneel, crawl, bend, grasp, and squat
- Physical ability to lift 20 pounds and push/manipulate heavy floor equipment such as scrubbers, buffers, waxers, shampooers, and vacuums
- Strong knowledge of cleaning techniques, tools, and chemical handling
- Ability to work independently and safely with caustic cleaning chemicals and solutions
- Strong communication skills to follow written and oral instructions and to work harmoniously with staff, clients, and the public
Full-time, continuing swing shift. Odd-numbered years:
January – June 4:00pm – 1:30am;
July – December 12:00pm – 8:30pm. Even-numbered years:
February – March 4:00pm – 1:30am;
April – January 12:00pm – 8:30pm.
Paid leave, competitive benefits package including full medical, vision and dental insurance, paid sick leave, vacation, personal leave, and 11 paid holidays per year. Competitive salary range of $3,233 – $4,848.
