Position Overview

Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Oregon State Hospital (OSH) Environmental Services Department is hiring Custodians for multiple full‑time positions. The role supports a clean, healthy, and therapeutic environment for patients and staff in Salem, Oregon.

• Clean and disinfect all substances, spills and accidents.
• Pick up and deliver bio‑hazard waste and sharps to designated secure storage.
• Disinfect patient wards during infectious disease outbreaks.
• Sweep, dust, mop, and buff hard surfaces.
• Vacuum and spot‑clean carpets, then remove trash.
• Scrub, rinse and refinish floors; clean, shampoo and extract carpets and upholstered furniture.
• Clean and maintain custodial equipment.
• Prep floors and walls for remodel and/or renovation projects.

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• Minimum 6 months of custodial experience operating required equipment.
• Ability to push or pull heavy equipment and lift up to 50 pounds; crouch, stoop, bend, stand and walk for extended periods (90% of shift).

• Experience in effective custodial organization and time‑management skills.
• Proficiency in operating commercial custodial equipment such as carpet extractors, scrubbers, buffers, non‑touch cleaning systems and various commercial vacuums.
• Knowledge of proper use and dilution ratios of cleaning chemical solutions.
• Ability to use technology and training to enhance performance and productivity.

Must pass a criminal records check that meets OHA criteria at the time of hire and throughout employment.

• Competitive salary range of $3,515.00–$3,798.00 per month, plus a 10% pay differential for OSH custodians.
