Job Summary

Under the direct supervision of the Building Principal and Director of Operations, performs general cleaning and maintenance in school buildings and grounds; maintains equipment in functional condition; and provides cleaning and custodial assistance to students, teachers, visitors and others as necessary. Performs related duties and general maintenance work as required.

Qualifications
  • Credentials:
    Any combination of education and experience that provides the required skill and knowledge for successful performance.
  • State Motor Vehicle Operator's license or ability to provide own transportation.
  • Education:

    High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Training or Experience

    Required:

    Six months or more experience in building and cleaning maintenance desirable.
Knowledge, Skills, Competencies and Abilities
  • Follow oral or written work orders from supervisor.
  • Read, write and speak English fluently.
  • Describe cleaning, maintenance or repair problems orally or in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others.
  • Basic arithmetic (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division).
  • Work above ground from ladders and automatic lifts.
  • Perform work according to standard procedures and schedule set forth by supervisor(s).
Essential Job Functions (Performance Responsibilities)
  • Check and secure building at beginning and end of shift.
  • Clean rooms, hallways, cafeterias, restrooms, offices, stairways, and other areas according to district standards.
  • Sweep, mop, buff, strip, and wax floors.
  • Clean rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture, and blinds.
  • Wash walls, ceilings, woodwork, windows, doors, and sills.
  • Remove graffiti, clean glass areas.
  • Replace light bulbs and ceiling tiles.
  • Set up and break down chairs, tables and equipment in meeting rooms and functional rooms.
  • Clear snow from entrances and walkways; spread sand and ice melting chemicals.
  • Perform grounds‑keeping duties, clear debris, and maintain grounds.
  • Receive deliveries and assist in unloading trucks and storing supplies.
  • Deliver supplies and materials to classrooms, bathrooms and other areas.
  • Empty wastebaskets; pick up and remove trash and assist in recycling program.
  • Follow safety guidelines and policies to reduce accident or injury to self or to students, inclusive of the District’s Exposure Control Plan for Bloodborne Pathogens.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Other Performance Measures
  • Perform general cleaning and repair work during school vacations.
  • Assist parents and visitors during special events and programs.
  • Assume other related tasks as assigned by supervisor.
  • Use hand tools of trade and related power equipment (brooms, mops, floor cleaning and waxing machines, vacuum cleaners, snow blowers, shovels, power mower, and hand tools).
  • Follow all applicable safety rules, procedures and regulations governing tools and equipment.
  • Wear appropriate safety gear.
  • Comply with the district’s chemical hygiene program and follow MSDS sheets.
  • Occasional travel between schools or between schools and central office may be required.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
  • Frequent bending/stooping and occasional to frequent squatting/crouching, reaching above shoulder, pushing and pulling.
  • Occasional lifting up to 45 pounds.
  • Work in standard office and school building environments.
  • Work outdoors in inclement weather conditions.
  • Exposure to cleaning chemicals, solvents and contaminated trash, grasses, pollens, etc.
Terms of Employment

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the District. (260 day contract)

Performance will be evaluated in accordance with Board policy.

Employee does not supervise other employees.
