Position SummaryAs the Property Technician, you will support the daily operations of the Saint Vincent de Paul Dining Hall and the Bishop Weigand Resource Center by maintaining safe, clean, and functional environments for individuals experiencing homelessness. Working closely with program staff, volunteers, and community partners, you will ensure that facilities are well-maintained and that the physical spaces reflect the dignity and hospitality at the heart of Basic Needs - Salt Lake.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain clean, safe, and sanitary conditions throughout the facility, including proper handling and disposal of biohazard materials and drug paraphernalia in accordance with established safety protocols.
- Set up and break down the dining room before and after meal service, including tables, sweeping, and mopping.
- Clean and maintain restrooms following meal service to ensure a hygienic and comfortable environment for guests.
- Perform general groundskeeping duties, including garbage removal, lawn care, and snow and ice management.
- Support the efficient operation and upkeep of buildings and grounds, completing routine property maintenance as needed.
- Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment and communicate supply needs to the Basic Needs Operations Manager in a timely manner.
- Keep tools and equipment organized, accessible, and in good working order.
- Engage clients in volunteer opportunities related to cleaning and maintenance tasks, supporting participation and a sense of shared responsibility.
- Collaborate with Easter Seals staff, volunteers, and program partners to support daily operations and a welcoming service environment.
- Report unusual circumstances, safety concerns, or security needs promptly to the Basic Needs Operations Manager.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Requirements
- This position works on-site at the Saint Vincent de Paul Dining Room and Bishop Weigand Resource Center and includes a combination of indoor and outdoor work. The role requires extended periods of standing, walking, bending, reaching, and working in physically active environments. Occasional lifting and carrying of supplies, equipment, and donated goods up to 50 pounds is required. Outdoor work includes groundskeeping and snow removal in seasonal weather conditions.
The use of personal protective equipment, including ear protection when operating equipment, is required. Occasional local driving in support of program needs may be required. - The work environment is fast-paced and can be unpredictable, particularly during meal service hours. This position regularly interacts with individuals experiencing homelessness and food insecurity. The work requires patience, sound judgment, and the ability to maintain appropriate boundaries and professionalism in a dynamic, high-traffic setting. Exposure to biohazard materials and unsanitary conditions is a regular part of this role.

- Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to operate hand tools and power tools.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to carry out detailed written and oral instructions using common sense judgment.
- Commitment to treating all individuals with dignity, compassion, and respect.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment in a community-based setting.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in property maintenance, facilities management, or a related field.
- Basic maintenance and janitorial knowledge, including cleaning procedures, sanitation standards, and safe handling of biohazard materials.
- Basic plumbing knowledge sufficient to identify and respond to leaks, clogs, or drainage issues.
- Basic carpentry skills for minor building repairs and general yard maintenance.
- Forklift certification, or the ability to obtain one.
- Must pass a national BCI/FBI background check.
- Must maintain a valid Utah driver's license, be at least 21 years of age, and meet CCS vehicle safety standards.
- This position is scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Thursday through Monday, 11:30 AM to 7:30 PM.
