Job Summary

Utah Presents is a non-profit, mission driven, multi-disciplinary presenter at the University of Utah which brings diverse artistic and cultural experiences to campus and the surrounding region.

The Stage Technician is a part-time, per-call position fitting for anyone interested in providing backstage support to an exciting array of multi-disciplinary events such as dance, concerts, comedy, and opera.

This role varies by project, with technicians serving as specialists or general stagehands in collaboration with full-time staff. Responsibilities are defined by skill and willingness to learn, but may include operating fly-rail, follow-spot, audio-video equipment, providing wardrobe support, stagehand labor, and working as a stage electrician. Technicians will work across these departments.

Responsibilities
  • Arrive on time and prepared for all assigned shifts.
  • Perform tasks such as hanging soft goods, lighting focus, cable wrapping, and truck un-loading/ loading.
  • Follow instructions and receive specific training as required for each event. Ask questions and follow through on all assigned tasks.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills and foster a collaborative team environment.
  • Adapt to a varied theatre schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.
Physical Abilities
  • Ability to repeatedly lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, and move continuously during long shifts, including load-ins and load-outs.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, reach overhead, and perform other physically demanding tasks.
  • Ability to work in varied environments, including dark spaces, loud environments, and fluctuating temperatures.
  • Adequate vision and hearing to operate and evaluate production equipment safely.
  • Ability to respond quickly and effectively in high-pressure or emergency situations.
  • Ability to work flexible and extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications EQUIVALENCY STATEMENT :

1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience (Example: bachelor’s degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
