Stage Technician Job Summary
Utah Presents is a non-profit, mission driven, multi-disciplinarypresenter at the University of Utah which brings diverse artisticand cultural experiences to campus and the surrounding region. The Stage Technician is a part‑time, per‑call position fitting foranyone interested in providing backstage support to an excitingarray of multi-disciplinary events such as dance, concerts, comedy,and opera. This role varies by project, with technicians serving asspecialists or general stagehands in collaboration with full-timestaff.
Responsibilities are defined by skill and willingness tolearn, but may include operating fly-rail, follow-spot, audio-videoequipment, providing wardrobe support, stagehand labor, and workingas a stage electrician. Technicians will work across thesedepartments.
Preferred Qualifications: Qualified candidates willhave a minimum two years experience in theatrical or related technical fields and will be enthusiastic about growing skills innew areas. Experience may include time spent in any professional,community, educational or recreational arts production or liveevent field.
Job Functions: Candidates must be ableto reliably perform the following essential duties:
- Arrive on time and prepared for all assigned shifts.
- Perform tasks such as hanging soft goods, lighting focus, cablewrapping, and truck un-loading/ loading.
- Follow instructions and receive specific training as required for each event. Ask questions and follow through on all assigned tasks.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills and foster acollaborative team environment.
- Adapt to a varied theatre schedule, including nights, weekends,and holidays.
- Complete additional duties as assigned.
- Ability to repeatedly lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50pounds.
- Ability to stand, walk, and move continuously during longshifts, including load-ins and load-outs.
- Ability to bend, kneel, stoop, reach overhead, and perform other physically demanding tasks.
- Ability to work in varied environments, including dark spaces,loud environments, and fluctuating temperatures.
- Adequate vision and hearing to operate and evaluate production equipment safely.
- Ability to respond quickly and effectively in high-pressure or emergency situations.
- Ability to work flexible and extended hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Minimum QualificationsEQUIVALENCY STATEMENT: 1 year of higher education can be substituted for 1 year of directly related work experience(Example: bachelor's degree = 4 years of directly related work experience).
