The basic function is to perform tasks that provide school personnel, students, and the public with an environmentally safe, attractive, comfortable, and clean facility in which to work and conduct school activities.
EssentialJob Duties
This position is responsible for routine cleaning of the campus, including offices, classrooms, restrooms, gymnasiums, athletic rooms, etc. A custodian must have flexible availability and potentially support weekend events such as Homecoming, Stars Over TMI, Graduation, dances, etc. All employees are expected to maintain good personal hygiene and wear the appropriate attire which may include uniforms. This position requires the ability to carry out instructions in written or verbal form and communicate effectively with all TMI constituents.
Ensure a well‑cared for and clean facility by performing tasks such as emptying and cleaning waste receptacles, washing windows, dusting furniture, cleaning vents, fans, walls, mop and vacuum floors.
- Perform deep cleaning tasks such as cleaning baseboards in offices and bathrooms, around sinks and toilets.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness of storage and supply areas; maintain a record of inventory and ask for supplies as needed.
- Advise the janitorial supervisor of needed maintenance and repairs in the assigned areas as soon as an issue is noticed.
- Be ready to assist other custodians as directed by the janitorial supervisor.
- Tasks may be performed with potential exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as strong odors, fumes, dusts, wetness, humidity, machinery, vibrations, temperature and noise extremes, pathogenic substances and toxic/poisonous agents.
- Follow all applicable workplace safety guidelines and immediately advise of any safety issues.
May be required to stand for long periods of time while working and be able to walk stairs between floors in a multi‑story building. Must be able to move around and/or be on your feet 7-8 hours a day.
- Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort in duties which require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of machinery, and carrying materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Must be able to push/pull supply cart on an inclined outdoor walkway.
- Must be able to complete onsite training to safely operate an electric floor buffer.
- Valid drivers required.
