Facilities Maintenance Technician
The Facilities Maintenance Technician performs a wide range of electrical, mechanical, and general building maintenance tasks to keep the facility safe, efficient, and in good working order. This role focuses on troubleshooting and repairing equipment and systems, supporting basic HVAC and electrical needs, and handling routine facilities duties across the building.
Responsibilities
- Perform electrical and mechanical troubleshooting to diagnose issues with facility systems and equipment.
- Carry out repairs on building systems, equipment, and fixtures to ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Complete routine and preventive maintenance tasks on facility equipment and building infrastructure.
- Support basic HVAC maintenance, including filter changes, inspections, and minor adjustments as needed.
- Perform basic electrical work, such as replacing fixtures, troubleshooting minor electrical issues, and assisting with small repairs under appropriate guidance.
- Handle general carpentry tasks, including drywall repair, patching, and painting to maintain the facility's appearance and functionality.
- Assist with building maintenance tasks such as door adjustments, minor structural repairs, and upkeep of common areas.
- Use boom lifts or scissor lifts safely to perform work at heights, including gutter work and other elevated maintenance tasks.
- Support basic cleaning and general facility upkeep to maintain a clean and orderly environment.
- Respond to maintenance requests in a timely manner and document work performed according to site procedures.
- Collaborate with other maintenance and facilities team members to prioritize tasks and complete projects efficiently.
- Follow all safety procedures, lockout/tagout practices, and company policies while performing maintenance activities.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3+ years of building or facilities maintenance experience.
- Hands-on experience with mechanical troubleshooting and repair.
- Basic HVAC knowledge and experience supporting HVAC maintenance tasks.
- Basic electrical skills for minor troubleshooting and repairs.
- Basic carpentry skills, including drywall repair and painting.
- Experience with general building maintenance and repair tasks.
- Ability to perform preventive maintenance on facility systems and equipment.
- Capability to use boom lifts or scissor lifts safely for elevated work.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with a methodical approach to diagnosing issues.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks.
- Commitment to following safety procedures and maintaining a safe work environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working on dock doors or similar facility access systems is beneficial.
- Familiarity with painting, patching, and general cosmetic repairs in a commercial or industrial setting.
- Comfort with basic cleaning and facility upkeep tasks as part of overall maintenance responsibilities.
- Ability to read and follow work orders, maintenance logs, and basic instructions.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with team members and other departments.
- Flexibility to work different shifts as needed to support facility operations, including day, evening, or weekend schedules.
