Position Summary
San Diego State University is seeking dependable and service-oriented Custodians to help maintain clean, safe, and welcoming learning and living environments across campus. Opportunities are available in both Facilities Services and the Office of Housing Administration, with assignments based on operational needs.
Whether you're seeking temporary part-time work or a long-term full-time role, this is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting the daily experience of SDSU students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
This hiring pool is used to fill temporary and permanent (probationary) positions as they become available.
Key Responsibilities
Facilities Services Custodian
Support the cleanliness and maintenance of academic, administrative, and public campus facilities by:
- Cleaning classrooms, offices, laboratories, restrooms, common areas, athletic facilities, and exterior building entrances.
- Performing floor care, furniture cleaning, trash and recycling removal, window cleaning, and replenishing restroom supplies.
- Supporting post-construction cleanup, emergency response cleaning, and special custodial projects.
- Assisting with minor facility and custodial equipment maintenance, campus events, and general Facilities Services operations.
Housing Custodian
Support a clean, safe, and welcoming residential environment for students by:
- Cleaning residence halls, student rooms, lounges, restrooms, kitchens, stairwells, elevators, and other residential common areas.
- Performing room turnover, deep cleaning, floor care, trash removal, and replenishing restroom and residential supplies.
- Assisting with residence hall openings, closures, move-in/move-out activities, and emergency cleanup.
- Supporting housing events, maintaining custodial equipment and supply inventories, and helping ensure a positive residential experience.

Position Information
- This recruitment will be used to fill full-time or part-time appointments on a permanent (probationary) and/or temporary basis, depending on the staffing need. Temporary appointments are made for a specified period and may be renewed or end earlier in accordance with the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement. Eligibility for benefits varies based on appointment type, timebase, and applicable CSU policies and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
- These positions are designated non-exempt under FLSA and are eligible for overtime compensation.
- The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.

Monday–Friday
- Day Shift: 3:30 AM – 12:00 PM
- Transition Shift: 11:00 AM – 7:30 PM
- Night Shift: Monday–Thursday: 6:00 PM – 2:30 AM;
Friday: 4:30 PM – 1:00 AM
Housing
Monday–Friday
- Day Shift: 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
