Night Manager

About the Role

Abode, one of the largest and effective nonprofits working to end homelessness in the Bay Area, is seeking a Night Manager for our programs in Alameda County.

The duties of the Night Manager shall be compensated through the provision of a reduced rent on-site large one bedroom apartment unit. The reduced rent benefit will be considered a stipend income for tax purposes. The Night Manager works approximately 2‑10 hours per week, responding to emergencies on nights and weekends. Pay range: $15.65‑$17.22 hourly. The apartment will need to be vacated within 7 days of termination of this position.

• Respond to emergency calls from 5:00 p.m. through 9:00 a.m., Monday night through Friday morning, and on weekends and holidays as on‑call schedule dictates. Typically be on site or nearby, available by cell phone.
• Perform light maintenance or janitorial duties (e.g., turn off water valves, vacuum water, set up fans for flooding, collect litter, lock laundry room, review security camera video).
• Use good judgment and discretion to call for backup or 911 in emergencies; contact on‑call vendors for maintenance emergencies.
• Direct emergency personnel to relevant areas of the grounds, buildings, or units and remain present while they are on site.
• Within 24 hours, record incidents, unusual occurrences, or emergency/after‑hours calls on the incident report form and notify the Manager.
• Walk the interior of common areas and exterior of the property, including parking areas, at least once each evening; inspect and turn off lights, secure all doors and windows, activate alarms.
• Enforce quiet hours and house rules; caution residents regarding complaints about excessive noise, disorderly conduct, or misuse of property.

• Perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
• Climb four flights of stairs at least once per day.
• Lump and carry 25 pounds.
• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Write routine reports and correspondence.
• Communicate effectively with residents or employees of the organization.
• Remain calm in emergencies and de‑escalate situations with agitated residents.
• Interpret various instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Work with a minimum of supervision.
• Property management experience preferred.
