On-Call Custodian

Job Summary

This position reports to the Custodial Supervisor/Manager and is responsible for the general cleanliness of the museum. Applicants must be available for any assigned shifts and to work overtime.

• Proper operation of custodial equipment, including floor machines such as vacuums and scrubbers, mops and mop buckets, floor, wall and window squeegees, ladders, step stools, scissor lift, and forklift.
• Clean and maintain all custodial stations: classrooms, office spaces, restrooms, entrance ways, work spaces, parking lots and food service areas.
• Collect trash, recycling and compost and dispose in proper receptacles.
• Dust, sweep, mop (dry, damp), vacuum, shampoo, scrub, steam clean, strip, wax, and seal surfaces.
• Refill supplies such as paper dispensers and soap dispensers.
• Clean and disinfect urinals, commodes, washbasins, partitions, windows and walls.
• Use custodial equipment to carry out job responsibilities.
• Respond quickly to custodial messages.
• Perform additional custodial duties as required.

• At least 6 months of custodial experience or completion of basic custodial training.
• Ability to read, write and follow simple oral and written instructions.

Ability to lift and carry 35 lbs.
Ability to push and pull 50 lbs.
Ability to bend, kneel, reach, move from place to place, twist at the waist, and climb and work on ladders.

This position is based in San Francisco, California. Staff are expected to work onsite a certain number of days per week based on department requirements.

The starting rate for this role is $25.85. This rate is step 1 of a 6­step union pay scale.

This is an on‑call (variable hours) position that does not include benefits.
