Lead Automotive Technician – AM Shift (San Francisco)
We are seeking a Lead Automotive Technician to support a self-driving vehicle program. This is a hands‑on leadership role responsible for overseeing daily vehicle maintenance, diagnostics, testing, troubleshooting, and repair activities while providing technical guidance to a team of technicians. The ideal candidate has strong automotive diagnostic experience, is comfortable working with OEM tools and Linux‑based test procedures, and enjoys mentoring others in a fast‑paced engineering environment.
Scope- Lead day‑to‑day technician activities, providing guidance, training, and technical support to ensure high‑quality work and efficient operations.
- Perform vehicle diagnostics, troubleshooting, testing, maintenance, and repair activities on development vehicles.
- Navigate repair databases, follow established procedures, and maintain accurate documentation of repairs, testing, and results.
- Utilize OEM scan tools and manufacturer diagnostic software to identify and resolve vehicle issues.
- Execute Linux command line test procedures and interpret test results to support engineering investigations.
- Coordinate shop activities, maintain organization, manage inventory, and promote a safe and efficient work environment.
- Work closely with engineering teams to investigate issues, communicate findings, and support vehicle development efforts.
- Review repair documentation and ensure work is completed in accordance with established processes and quality standards.
- Demonstrated experience leading or mentoring technicians in an automotive, robotics, aerospace, or similar technical environment.
- Strong hands‑on automotive technician experience with vehicle diagnostics, repair, and maintenance.
- Experience using OEM scan tools and manufacturer diagnostic software.
- Experience executing Linux command line tests and interpreting results (no scripting required).
- Must be comfortable working with computers, OEM diagnostic tools, and Linux command line interfaces.
- Experience reading and interpreting schematics, service manuals, wiring diagrams, and repair documentation.
- Strong documentation skills, including creating repair orders, documenting diagnoses, repair procedures, and required parts.
- Experience maintaining shop organization, cleanliness, tooling, and inventory.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and experience using hand and power tools.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technicians and engineering teams.
- Experience supporting autonomous vehicle programs.
- Experience with advanced vehicle diagnostics, repair, and maintenance.
- Experience with sensor installation, calibration, and validation.
- Previous experience leading shop operations or coordinating technician workflows.

Estimated Min Rate: $30.00
Estimated Max Rate: $45.00/hr+ (Depends on work experience)
