Fleet Maintenance Supervisor (2 openings – one at Golden Gate and one at Sunset Scavenger)

Golden Gate – Shift: Monday – Friday | 12pm/2pm – 7pm/9pm (Start times will vary and OT could be needed)

Sunset – Shift: Monday – Friday | 12pm/2pm – 7pm/9pm (Start times will vary and OT could be needed)

Golden Gate – $96k - 120k

Sunset – $99,200-124K

Overview

The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the maintenance shop, ensuring all vehicles, equipment, and facilities are serviced, repaired, and maintained efficiently and safely. This individual will lead a team of maintenance personnel, coordinate workflow, and ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and applicable regulations.

This role requires a strong leadership presence, mechanical knowledge (without performing hands‑on work), and the ability to operate in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment supporting heavy equipment operations.

Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities
  • Supervise and direct maintenance shop personnel across assigned shifts to ensure timely service and repair of fleet vehicles and equipment
  • Monitor daily workflow, adjust schedules, and assign tasks to balance workload and minimize downtime
  • Partner with the Equipment Maintenance Manager to ensure operational goals and maintenance standards are consistently met
  • Ensure adherence to all company policies, safety protocols, inspection standards, and (when applicable) collective bargaining agreements
  • Maintain strong communication between maintenance teams and operations to support business needs and equipment availability
  • Conduct routine inspections and audits of equipment, facilities, and maintenance processes to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant operations
  • Identify safety hazards and implement corrective actions to protect personnel and equipment
  • Investigate equipment failures and vehicle incidents, determining root cause and supporting resolution
  • Support purchasing activities for parts, tools, equipment, and supplies needed for maintenance operations
  • Assist with recordkeeping and reporting, including service logs, inventory tracking, and inspection documentation (e.g., DVIRs, equipment condition reports)
  • Utilize diagnostic and maintenance tracking systems (e.g., JDE) to monitor fleet performance and maintenance activity
  • Be available to respond to equipment-related emergencies on a 24/7 basis as needed
Must‑Have Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Proven leadership or supervisory experience in maintenance, operations, or a related field
  • Familiarity with diesel engines and heavy fleet operations
  • Experience using maintenance/ERP systems (e.g., JDE) and diagnostic programs
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for tracking, reporting, and operational analysis
  • Strong understanding of fleet maintenance operations, preferably with heavy‑duty or diesel vehicles
  • Mechanical background with the ability to assess issues (non‑hands‑on role; supervisors do not perform repairs)
  • Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire)
  • Knowledge of employee supervision, training, performance management, and workforce planning
  • Strong organizational, problem‑solving, and decision‑making skills
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule and respond to emergencies outside of standard hours
Nice‑to‑Have Skills & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Experience in waste management, construction, or heavy equipment maintenance environments
  • Experience supervising or working with union personnel (or familiarity with union environments)
  • Experience supporting budgeting, inventory management, and resource allocation
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to bridge maintenance and operations teams effectively
