Job Description

Under the direction of the Superintendent of Structural Maintenance, this position is responsible for managing the day-to-day functions of nine (9) shops, fifteen (15) trades, including co-managing with the Superintendent supervision of all shop supervisors engaged in the repair, maintenance and construction of park infrastructure and grounds. The essential duties for this position include, but are not limited to:

  • Directs, assigns, reviews and approves the work of subordinate craft personnel engaged in the repair, maintenance and construction of park infrastructure, equipment, vehicles, apparatus, fencing, foundations and complements (e.g. painting, fountains, curbing, etc.) necessary to successfully execute related projects.
  • Plans, monitors and delegates work order requests to craft supervisors to maximize the efficiency of repair and maintenance work using the department’s Total Managed Assets (TMA) database system; monitors TMA and work order data dashboard for the yard; implements annual reset meetings.
  • Communicates orally and in writing in a professional and effective manner with division heads, craft supervisors, vendors/contractors, site administrators, private businesses and personnel from other City departments necessary for the completion of project; acts as a representative of the Recreation and Park Department at meetings with the public, contractors, planners, architects, designers, City officials, staff, agencies and businesses.
  • Plans and manages all Capital Plan Review and site walks between the yard and the Capital Division. Directs detailed construction document plan review process for all department Capital renewal projects to ensure compliance with design specification standards;

  • Supports the Superintendent of Structural Maintenance in managing an annual budget for renovation, maintenance and construction operations by monitoring and forecasting budget expenditures.
  • Works closely with Employee Health and Safety in support of document requests, quarterly and annual inspections, and other required incidents as they arise.
  • Works with other City agencies to requisition quotes for materials.
  • Works with Partnerships Division to secure needed funding for Deferred Maintenance or small maintenance projects.
  • Supports the Superintendent of Structural Maintenance in monitoring operations, maintenance and repair activities of subordinate craft personnel to ensure compliance with OSHA safety requirements and established policies and procedures.
  • Researches new or improved maintenance methods, materials, supplies and tools for the purpose of improving building, construction and maintenance work functions of the department’s Structural Maintenance Yard.
  • Inspects projects (i.e. repair, maintenance and construction) to ensure deadlines and objectives are completed according to project schedule; inspects projects (i.e. repair, maintenance and construction) to ensure subordinate craft personnel are safely and effectively using time, equipment and tools.
  • Prepares specifications for the requisition of materials, supplies and equipment necessary for the completion of projects by using computer applications and software (e.g. Microsoft Office, including Teams and Outlook).
  • Leads the implementation of organizational development initiatives at the Structural Maintenance Yard including Lean management principles by modeling and applying Lean principles to work organization and maintenance/repair production.
  • Oversees the yard fleet while working closely with Shop Supervisors to forecast fleet needs and the Manager of Fleet.
