Custodial Associate

Job Summary

Under direct supervision, the incumbent performs cleaning duties in offices, working stations, classrooms, computer laboratories, conference rooms, and other designated common areas of the UCSC Silicon Valley Campus at 3175 Bowers Ave., Santa Clara, CA. Responsibilities include cleaning, recycling bottles and cans, handling mixed paper, compostable, and general maintenance in restrooms, shower rooms, breakrooms, lounges, hallways, and other public areas, individually or as part of a team, performing custodial functions.

• Maintain hallways, stairway corridors, stairs, lounges, outside steps, terraces, and entrances; sweep, mop, scrub, dust, clean, vacuum carpets, window sills, and wash glass and trim on entrance doors.
• Clean and disinfect restroom and shower rooms daily; maintain fixtures, vents, shower curtains, drains; replenish supplies; dispose of trash with appropriate cleaning solutions.
• Empty waste, recycling, mixed paper, and compost receptacles.
• Keep custodial supply closets stocked and report needed repairs.
• Rearrange or move furniture as needed to complete custodial duties.
• Work as a team member in other areas to meet operational needs.
• Periodically clean woodwork, light fixtures, blinds, radiators, grills, ducts, walls, blackboards, washers, dryers; wax or polish furniture; spot‑clean carpets and upholstered furniture.
• Lock and unlock buildings per written instructions; carry out emergency procedures, communicate with fire and police, and evacuate when needed.
• Handle chemicals safely, following safety information and instructions.
• Participate in staff safety training and report accidents and injuries.

• Knowledge of and ability to properly operate custodial equipment (vacuum cleaner, floor scrubber, polisher).
• Knowledge of building safety procedures and safe use of custodial equipment and chemicals.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to interact effectively with a diverse campus population.
• Ability to work independently and with a team, prioritize workload, and adapt to changing priorities.
• Effective written and oral communication in English; read manuals and instructions.

• High school diploma or equivalent.

• Budgeted salary: $25.02 – $27.09 per hour.
• Schedule:
  
  Full‑time, fixed; 40 hours per week, Tuesday–Saturday, 12:00 pm–8:30 pm.

• Ability to operate custodial equipment, handle cleaning chemicals, work in variable temperature/weather conditions, and handle potential hazardous materials.
• Will be required to work scheduled on‑site hours, including occasional evenings and weekends, and may be asked to work overtime or remotely as needed.
• Must comply with vaccination policy; provide proof or exception at least 8 weeks from hire date.
