Schedule

Monday-Friday, 7:45am-4:15pm, occasional evening and weekends.

Location

This position is 100% in person, primarily located at 2650 Senter Road, San Jose, CA 95111. Some presence may be required at our other location at 1560 Berger Drive.

Travel

Local travel may be required up to 80% of the time.

About the San Jose Conservation Corps (SJCC+CS):

One of the first urban conservation corps in the country, the San Jose Conservation Corps + Charter School was founded in 1987 to empower young adults aged 18 to 27 ("Corps members") to upskill themselves and advance their career in conservation and green spaces. Today, SJCC+CS continues to operate its 1-year-long paid workforce development program, while also functioning as a WASC-accredited charter high school, allowing those who have aged out of the traditional education system to earn their high school diploma.

Position Summary:

The Field Site Supervisor implements the mission of SJCC+CS by using their leadership, supervisory and technical skills to develop the educational and work skills of young people while preserving the natural landscape of our community. The crew supervisor is responsible for the oversight of various environmental field projects in city and county parks, which may include trail maintenance, invasive species removal, native habitat restoration, beautification, fire fuel reduction, and more.

The supervisor is responsible for a team of 4-9 job training Corps members aged 18 to 27.

Job Duties:

General
  • Transport crew to the job site with equipment trailer in tow
  • Work on projects that include some of the following trades:
    Landscaping, trail maintenance, new trail construction, in-stream enhancement, eradicating non-native plant species, fire fuel reduction, roadside maintenance and safety.
  • Communicate with the project sponsor, sub-contractor, or contractor
  • Organize, direct, and lead a crew of Corps members to work efficiently to complete projects in the allotted timeframe, ensuring a high quality of work
  • Determine manpower levels, material quantities, and equipment requirements for each project
  • Ensure that SJCC+CS policies are upheld and followed on the job site.
  • Collaborate with program staff
  • Participate in spike, backcountry, and emergency response expeditions as needed.
Administration & Safety
  • Complete and upload Corps member disciplinary action as needed, and monthly Corps member evaluations
  • Complete and submit daily reports, including attendance, safety tailgates, pre and post trip vehicle inspections, end of day report
  • Oversee maintenance of vehicles, keys, gas cards, and registration papers.
  • Conduct tailgate safety meetings on a daily basis and after all work-related accidents, keeping a written record of each meeting
  • Assure that Corps members wear proper safety gear at all times
  • Take appropriate safety precautions in the performance of job duties
