Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, HVAC Tech / Heating Engineer
Required Qualifications
- Intermediate-level knowledge of mechanical concepts: rotating equipment, centrifugal pumps, piping, electric motors, chillers, boilers, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems.
- Knowledge of pneumatic, hydraulic, electronic and electrical control systems, 3‑phase 480V equipment, and water chemical analysis.
- Experience identifying and assessing needed repairs of chillers, boilers and ancillary equipment.
- Ability to operate Human Machine Interface (HMI) panels and document equipment readings.
- Experience using specialized measuring devices, modifying equipment for reliability and efficiency, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols and procedures.
- Valid Texas Driver's License and a driving record with fewer than ten points.
- EPA 608 certification.
- Experience working in higher education or government.
- Experience using AiM IWMS by Assetworks.
Services all equipment associated with the production and/or distribution of hot water and chilled water, as well as the maintenance and operation of the emergency generators on the Round Rock campus.
Job Duties- Oversee the operation of centrifugal chillers and boilers in the Central Utility Building (CUB) ensuring that the campus' needs are met.
- Oversee the operation of the ancillary equipment for the chilled and hot water systems, including the inspection and lubrication of the chilled and hot water pumps.
- Check for proper operation of the cooling tower fans and associated equipment, including condensing water pumps and variable frequency drives.
- Oversee operation and maintenance of backup generators.
- Perform water technician tasks by conducting water analysis tests and adjusting chemical feed pumps as required.
- Service and maintain plant‑related water softeners.
- Troubleshoot and service all air compressors in the CUB, repairing as necessary.
- Inspect and maintain all dryers in the CUB.
- Receive, update and complete work orders using the Integrated Work Order Management System (IWMS), currently AiM.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and operate and maintain a university vehicle.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
